Finding Your Feet

Being a boy or a girl, it is the inevitable course that one must throw himself or herself into the society after leaving college. The questions are whether or not one can get with it, and how one adapts his or her thinking to the new conditions?

Recently, one of my old colleagues has been vexed for his son. As I know, his boy, tall and smart, was very excellent – as head of his school in a top-ten college for four years; his school-mates liking him, some of whom adoring him, especially some girls. After graduation, he was enrolled also by a top-ten university for master degree in 2008. But now, the boy wants to drop out for his situation is not as good as he had in the bachelor college, neither being chosen the head nor being adored by somebody at all.

Is the boy a perfectist or an egoist – I have no idea. But I know he must be the one with higher IQ but lower FQ. A college or a university is a small society in a China way, we usually think. So, everybody should regard it as a training base, not only studying know-how science but learning how to get along with. Is that right?

Generally, everyone must live and work together with others after growing-up. Are you getting ready how to fling yourself in the society and what person to act as? Perhaps, you can gain some sacred inspiration from the saying: “A great man can make a change, an able man can make use of, an ordinary man can fit in with and a mediocre man can only complain”. Which man shall you prefer to be? To find your right place is a key point. I believe that most of us are not the great or the able, but fortunately, the ordinaries; so what you will do is only to find your legs – maybe this is the lowest standard for us unless someone wants to be the mediocre.

My IQ, EQ, and FQ are so low that I am definately an ordinary person--the mediocre.

Don't complain about the environment. That's right. I'm a senior now. But the four years I learn little, which is true.  The diploma is not useful and may be not accepted by the companies. So it's terrible. The Chinese education is commercialized. It's hard for the students who graduated from the prestigious colleges to find job in China. I don't know how to do.

If someone is aware enough of the fact that his IQ, EQ and FQ are so low, he must be very clever with higher IQ, EQ and FQ - I think. Heihei!

I did it by myself.

Who cares about one's Q!  HA!  Anyone can enjoy life.  I once met a man who claimed to have an extremely high IQ.  He seemed unhappy and complained that he could read an entire newspaper in a few minutes, etc.  He was single, in his mid-30s (age), and just seemed very unhappy.

I may be a little smarter than your average bear, but I enjoy doing simple jobs.  Most people have simple jobs that are not very rewarding.  What we make of life is up to us.  I have no problem digging ditches for a living and being happy.  And, yes, I have a master's degree in botany.  So what?  If I was still in Atlanta making the big bucks I would not be happy.  I'm much happier here, making 1/5 of my pay in the big city!

I wrote an amazingly similar blog several days ago on www.ok-english.net.  It is titled something like "making your mark in the world and learning how to slow down."  My point in the blog?  When young, we work hard to be recognized as adults.  As we age, we then need to learn to work less and enjoy life more.
