Nov. 7, 2008

Today was Friday, a holiday. After getting up, I went to have breakfast with Chen Qiang, the accompanying person. At about 10 a.m., READONE called Chen Qiang that he was drawing money in Kraksaan and would arrive here in a minute. The message he sent me was like this, in both English and Indonesian: “Wait moment, i take money i bank kraksaan, may be 8 minet”.

Sure enough, he got here in a short while. He asked me to sign, I signed on three sheets. Subsidy 1500.000RP, living allowance 1320.000RP, transportation fee 220.000RP, 3040.000RP in total. I said that I could only write my name and could not sign my name artistically. After signing, they handed me an envelope and I took a rough look into it and found it was OK. I put it away and said thank-you. Suddenly I felt I became rich from a poor man, I was happy. Readone and some of the teachers might be back-office workers, but as if they had teaching tasks. They went to carry the satellite antenna previously set up for NiuShiwei to my yard and bought a new, smaller wardrobe. The wardrobe was moved  upstairs through a rope. Chen Qiang put the curtains on the main window and I asked whether a curtain could be put on the side window. READONE said yes. The side curtain was bought and put on in one or two days. The satellite antenna was fixed on the second day. I didn’t know which satellite they focused on. I reckoned that it was the same with that in NiuShiwei’s home. I saw that it didn’t have the programs from China, the program in Chinese was from Hongkong.

After arranging my home, I went to buy something for cooking. A bottle of edible oil, five kilos of rice (costing 60.000RP), but no knife or knife board. The scale of the supermarket we went to was not large as that of the one in my home in China. Anyway, the basics were included, such as milk, bread and fruits. But the fruits were dear, especially apples and pears.

I managed to find time to send messages to my leaders at home. Headmaster Kuang replied, adapt gradually, wish you success.

The first meal I remember was cooked at noon. At about one o’clock after school Chen Qiang took me home on his motorcycle. I bought eggplants ,cabbage, tomatoes at a road side market. They didn’t look fresh. I bought two little fish, which was put in ice. I bought some chicken. There were flies everywhere, which were disgusting. It was good that you could buy any part of the chicken. Getting home, I began to cook. Without a knife board, I cut on the metal edge of the water tank. The knife was for cutting fruits. The cooking was like the children’s cooking. The pot was small, the slice was small and weak. The liquid gas was strong. I cooked rice with electric rice pot, but it took a long time. The first meal took nearly two hours. It was over 2 p.m. after having lunch.
