Some Problems about studying English with me

Hot 4699 views. 2015-10-9 21:15 | education, studying, English, senior, about

Im a senior student and my major subject is education of chemistry. Up to now, I have passed CET4 and 6. Whats more, I got Level C at BEC examination in May this year. Although I have been studying English for more than 10 years,  I still stay  in a primary level contrasted with native speaker.
Firstly, the amount of accumulated words is a big trouble to me. This "words" I mean was which I can use in communication and writing masterly rather than those I recited to prepare for exams.  It confused me for a long time how  to remember word efficiently and permenantly. The problem I faced was I cant use them accurantly. Besides, those words which are not used widely are difficult to rememeber.  In my opinion, apart from reading more and more newspapers, going abroad may be a bettet way to study English. In this way, I can learn how the natives speak and writing. But, first of all, I must got enough grammar knowledge.
Whats more, another problem also troubles  me. I dont have enough time and chance to talk in English. Even when I was preparing for the exam of  BEC with my partener, we spent a lot of time in communication, we still cant tell whether it is good or bad because we all have no standard with our English. I tried for several ways to enhance my communication skill, but to my feeling, I have not improved greatly. If you somebody who are reading this essay have nice way, please tell me, thank you.
To sum up, although there are massive problems with studying language by oneself, I still need to enhance my ability about it. Only in this way can I improve more when I get a chance to live abroad.  By the way, I like England mostly for its red newsstand and stone road in rainy, lol.

I can sense your feeling which is also the common problem has confused most of us. What I want say is that you just do not work so hard on the so called vocabulary and grammar knowledge. Though words are important for a person who learn a language, while just think about what we accumulated words of our own language-Chinese. Surely we have to read and write, while when we do those things are just so freely without feeling burdened.

Here is my suggestion, just feel free doing that, keeping learning, since there is no end to of knolwdge. Everyday spend some time, though we all have to work or study and can not spare much time on what we like and want. But do not underestimate that small steps make a huge difference. Even thirty mins everyday will help us to master a lot, after months and years later when we look back what we have done, we appreciate what we have done right now.

I myself, just study by myself, everyday, spend some time writing here when I when I am free, and if not, I just see some short English articles from the Economists, which a very good website where I can learn a lot news and gain more words.  If there is no chance to talk, I just talk to myself by reciting some good mesages aloud.

I am still on the way to learn as a way to help myself to behave more efficient and meanwhile I think English is a good friend will bring me convenience in both my life and work.

I believe you will realize your dream and speak fluent English.

In regard to your english, i think it's already in a high lever now.  Don't be tangled in the grammer issue, when you open your mouth to speak english, no one pay much attention to your grammer mistake.
Take me for example, my english is worse than you, but my line manager is a foreigner, he can't speak Chinese,i need to communicate with him in english, and i noticed that when we have a meeting, Chinese colleagues didn't pay much attention to the grammer, as long as he can understant what you say,it's ok. Learning english just service for our life and work, not for examination, i think.
If you have no chance to speak english, reading loudly is also good for us.
Above is just my personal opinion.

Wow... my friends here are so smart now. ''Teadrinking'' said all the things I need to say. His writing has improved so much now and it is hard to distinguish whether it is he or me writing that. Amazing.

What Teadrinking said about learning is the 100% correct. Yes, just ignore those cumbersome grammar rules. Native speakers don't learn formal grammar but they can speak and write. I never learnt formal grammar and I just write out whatever seems suitable. When you keep reading and writing, you will notice you know more words and how to use those words. You don't need to force yourself to remember those words. Those words are already in you mind, but you don't notice it there. Just like riding a bicycle you don't need to remember how to balance yourself and you will automatically recall how to balance yourself and other skills.

''Samanthe'' is also right totally. Forget about the grammar and unusual words. After some practice you would be able to speak comfortably and easily.

As for speaking English fluently, that really needs person to person practice in speaking. After a short time, you would know how to speak in English without much difficulty. The more practice the more fluent you would be. You don't need to practice with a native speaker at this stage. You only need a practice with a native speaker when you need to work with westerners. It would be quite difficult for you to find a westerner to practice with you because that is tedious task and requires a lot of time. Try to enroll at those English tutoring centers where they have westerners teaching English.

According to what you have written here, I can say that your English level quite satisfactory and you have already mastered proper English writing skills. Besides, you have already passed CET4 and 6 which is useful for working in foreign companies. Having a C grade in BEC is also useful for your future career. Have more practice and you would be perfect. You can surely succeed.

Glad to note your comments about my country England. You made me reminiscent my British hometown. Yes, those newsstands, buses, nice countryside and the constant drizzles are typical of British life. Hope someday you can go there for visit and I welcome you to visit my home there. Good luck to you and commend you for your efforts to learn good English.
