Can We Become a Vegetarian?

Hot 5833 views. 2018-5-13 16:57

It is reported that from 2008 to 2015, the number of vegetarians in the United States increased from 7 million to 10 million. That is to say, more and more people realized the advantages of being vegetarians and are willing to eat no meat anymore. Then, what is vegetarianism? In short, it is a way of living which excludes, as far as is possible, all kinds of meat and fish in one's diet. However, unlike vegans, vegetarians will eat eggs and dairy, as well as use leather or any products made from animals.

Generally speaking, there are three main reasons to be a vegetarian. First, vegetarianism is beneficial to our environment. If people cut out meat and animal products from their diets, harmful emissions would be reduced greatly because less methane gas will be produced. Second, vegetarianism is considered to be healthier. Scientists found that about 8 million deaths could be avoided per year if the world chooses to go vegan. The main reason may be that eating no meat significantly lessens the risk of heart disease. Third, many people think killing and exploiting animals are cruel. They argue that both animals and human are born to be equal.

Well, though vegetarianism has so many advantages, I think it hard for me to become a vegetarian.

Well, there is no denying that becoming a vegetarian may have some merits. However, I saw something contradictory in your statement. For example, if vegetarian truly think it cruel to kill animals for eating their meat, why do they still use leather or any products made from animals? Isn't this cruel?

What? To be a vegetarian? No way! I can't be a vegetarian through my whole life. Though it improves the quality of life and help us keep healthy, I just can't refrain from eating meat.

Maybe animal products are so wide-spread that it is not easy for them to avoid using them at all. I think they just want to protect animals as practicable and possible as they can.

Indeed, eating meat has already become a habit of us and our parents encourage us to eat meat to stay strong. Unless laws prohibit us to eat meat, we actually can not give up our eating habit.
