The Ditch

Hot 4824 views. 2018-5-5 18:52

Recently, I read The Ditch, a documentary fiction that records some events during the Cultural Revolution. It is a dusty-laden history of forty years. The survivors in those days scattered in every corner, no one asked what happened to them, the victims of the years had long been turned into bone, even their offspring do not know where they were buried. Fortunately, Yang Xianhui, a conscientious writer, spared no efforts, searched around and undergone for years and finally unveiled the veil of history. The Ditch referred in the book is a labor reform farm in Jiuquan, Gansu, where three thousand rightists were held since 1957, and less than half of the rightists survived by the end of 1960. It is a place of pain, hunger and death. The author has been searching and interviewing nearly a hundred clients for years, just like fishing for a needle in the ocean. On the basis of highly faithful historical facts, the author has completed the documentary fiction. Through nearly 20 stories, the book has deeply revealed the fate of many victims, and draws a wonderful picture of human nature in the world of extinction, and is more direct to the spiritual essence and profound lessons of this historical tragedy.

With painstaking thinking, we can never repeat the same mistakes. Although some history is not allowed to be said now, people still remember it. Thanks to these writers, to restore history, so that we can see the scene at that time.

As a famous saying goes,to forget history is to betray,so we must remember it——lessons learned from the past can guide one in the future.

I haven't read the book, but I knew a book was written in culture revolution which is called To Live. It is very pathetic, especially when I read that Ku Gen was smothered by a bean. These books may partly reflected the life in the culture revolution. And the people who lived in that period is really suffering.

We often say that literary works are the epitome of an era. That's true. The cruelty of history is always telling us to reflect on the past. I hope the tragedy will not repeat itself.
