The book《The Nightingale and the Rose》was written by one of my favorite British writers---Oscar Wilde, and he is one of the most eminent writers in nineteenth century. He was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1854 and died in Paris, France in 1900.

      I like the story of the nightingale and the rose, as much as the story of the happy prince, which was known to me when I was very young. The book which I introduce today contains various stories that reveal the writer’s feelings. For example, the story of the nightingale and the rose talks about a kind-hearted nightingale who sought for a red rose to help a poor student dance with a girl who he fell in love with, eventually sacrificed her life. All that nightingale wanted was a red rose which would never be found in the cold winter, so she built out of music by moonlight, and stained the rose tree with her own heart’s blood. She sang to the tree with her breast against a thorn, and got a red rose much more beautiful than any others. But the red rose was not preserved well, it was thrown onto the street by the poor student after being refused by the girl who was mad about money.

     Oscar Wilde always quotes that ‘We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the star.’ Money is important, but love is priceless. Because love is unique and precious, and kindness cannot be neglected like dust.
