How horrible can a moral kidnapping be?

Hot 41345 views. 2017-10-28 18:27

These days, one of the most controversial topics arousing general concern is whether the youth should be asked to give up their seats to the old on buses.

When it comes to this issue, people's opinions vary from person to person.Quite a few citizens are in favor of the idea that the youth should offer their seats to the elderly considering they have more energies compared to the old. However, other citizens stand on a different grand. They consider it unreasonable to deprive the young of the right to have a seat on buses.

There is some truth in both arguments. However, as far as I am concerned, the second viewpoint seems more convincing and appealing to me. To begin with, there is no doubt that giving your seat to the old is a traditional virtue of Chinese culture. But the point of the discussion is whether the old have the power to ask young people to give up their seats. What is more, although young people have stronger bodies, they also have heavier pressure of life than the elderly. Given this, it would be a little too cruel for the young to be deprived of the time to take a rest on the bus. In addition to the above-mentioned factors, one more point that cannot be ignored is that the old and onlookers should not take it for granted and at the same time, we have no right to criticize other people for not giving up their seats.

In summary, we can vigorously advocate the traditional virtue of giving up the seat to the old but one thing we should keep in mind is that we can't use our own moral definition to measure the moral side of others.

As a old saying goes, be strict with oneself and lenient with others. Don not use your own standards to judge a person. Only when everyone is aware of it can  moral kidnapping disappeared.

To be honest, moral hijack has become more and more common, particularly in China. In Chinese tradition, respecting the aged and taking care of the children is always a rule that should be embedded in our mind, but I think it depends on the specific situation. Our young peole also have equal rights.

It is a serious social issue. I was also asked to offer my seat to the elderly this afternoon. To be honest, I am not that person who is not willing to offer my seat to the elderly. But if everyone all take it for granted, I might feel uncomfortable.

Yes, but sadly most of us can't do that yet. This is why moral abductions are becoming more and more intense in society.

Yes, it seems to me a very incomprehensible thing to have young people give up their seats indiscriminately. There are always too many people in our lives who define others by their own criteria.

Yes, you're right. If the young people are to be compromised, in a way, it is to turn young people into truly disadvantaged groups.

Yes! That's the point I want to highlight! We can choose to give up our seats to the elderly, but we also have the right to choose not to give up our seats. And no matter what decision we make, as long as there is no special situation, we should not be judged by others!
