Recently, one of the most controversial topics is that whether we should accept all the requests from our elders. When it comes to this issue, people's views vary from person to person. Some citizens hold the view that it is impolite to refuse the elders while others argue that it is not our duty to help them.

There is some truth in both arguments, however, after weighing from the pros and cons, it seems to me that we should learn to refuse certain requests from our elders. For one thing, there is no denying that we cannot handle all the problems coming from the elder since the limitation of our ability. Furthermore, it is irrational to promise something beyond our ability. For another, learning to refuse is a necessary skill for us to survive in society. Sometimes, a moment of courage can reduce a lot of unnecessary troubles in our life. What's more, a respectable elder will not think your refuse as impoliteness.

In a word, I'm not saying that we should not lend a helping hand to the elder, but we should learn to refuse, which is also a process of growing up.
