Death news around the Lunar New Year

902 views. 2020-1-31 15:44

When Chinese New Year was 9 days to go, before the new type of coronavirus was taken seriously in the whole country, on January 16, the famous Chinese news anchor and television host, Mr. Zhao Zhongxiang, died on his birthday in the morning at the age of 78.
Zhao was not only the first Chinese reporter who visited White House in 1979, but was also known as a notable host who had hosted the CCTV Spring Festival Gala since 1984 and for a total of 12 times.
This Gala, which is the biggest one in China, has been holding in every Lunar New Year’s Eve since 1983. It has become the most important Spring Festival TV show for Chinese people as well as Zhao Zhongxiang had become a familiar Spring Festival figure to audiences.
His death might indicate that this Spring Festival would not be a happy and peaceful one as usual.
According to the announcement made by his son, Mr. Zhao Zhongxiang felt uncomfortable at the end of 2019, then he went to hospital and had a medical check-up.
The doctors soon discovered that he had a very serious cancer which called squamous-cell carcinoma, and its cells had already spread promptly at the time.
This kind of cancer cells usually threaten to destroy patients’ skin, mouth, throat and esophagus. The terminal patients would gradually lose their dietary function until die in heavy pain in the end.
In spite of Zhao's passing away, three days right after Chinese New Year, I was shocked by another sad news from L.A. which was Kobe Bryant’s tragic accident.
The 41-year-old basketball legend player of NBA, who was also one of Bruce Lee's big fans, as old as me either, was killed in a helicopter accident with his second daughter when they were on their way to take part in a match.
Not wanting to miss the match, Kobe had chosen to by a helicopter before left. After taking off, the pilot soon lost his way in a fog which was extremely thick.
He failed to find a way out and the helicopter finally crashed in the mountains with heavy loss of life--not one of the nine people on board survived.
