A week latter the professor wanted to see how the performance was going on, so the class wanted to act it out for the professor on the balcony. Before they left they asked Sophie to go with them, but Sophie rejected on the pretext that her part was very trivial, and nothing important. It would be a waste of time to add her to the performance. Her classmates called her many times to come on, but she simply remained in her own seat. So at last no one bothered to invite her and they left her alone in the empty classroom. 

Sophie sat alone reading her textbooks, apart from all the thrills and enjoyment. She thought sullenly, she was nobody in this class, and she was utterly unimportant to anyone. She even hoped her professor or any classmate would come back and take a look at her, so as not to forget her. 

Just at this very moment, Professor Hu’ s voice reached her ears. Yes. She had entered the classroom, and was standing right before her, calling her name. Hastily she gave a response. 

 “Sunshine, in fact our play can not work on without your character---the passer-by. Though he speaks just a few sentences, he speaks the truth in life. In fact, it is an important character to clinch the point…”

Warmth arouse in Sophie’ s heart: Professor Hu was not crossed with her, but came and comforted her in return. She gave a hearty smile. 

Soon all the students came in. Together with them all, Sophie rehearsed the opera. Saddy did not pass the exam, was scolded by her parents, and discovered her boyfriend already had a wife. Excessively sullen, she ran to the top of the main building, ready to jump down. And at this moment, the heroin Weiwei squatted on the platform, showing Saddy had something on her mind, and was recalling her sadness on the top of the building. 

Now it was time for the passer-by to appear. 

Sophie walked from the door to Saddy, and recited the script, boring sentences such as “life is beautiful, you should be strong minded” and so on. The professor and the classmates were listening without any expression, waiting for Sophie to finish quickly, so that they could go on the opera. 

But Sophie stopped before she even finished. She felt very dull. If the girl were really going to jump down the building, she would take action even before Sophie finished reading! Her brain was reeling. At last, she came up with a good idea  in time. She turned and told the class: “I want to replace the passer-by for a drunkard! 

A drunkard! Everyone was surprised. Someone thought it was good, and worth trying. Someone shocked their heads. At last, everyone turned to the professor. 

The professor nodded in silence. Sophie was very excited. Here finally was a chance for her to show herself to others. So Sophie returned to the door and acted her part out for a second time. At the right instant she involved herself into her new plot, as if she was not a student anymore, but a cynical drunkard who spent money endlessly, who had just drank a lot of wine, and was now staggering in the street. 

From the very beginning everyone broke out laughing. Even sad Saddy could not restrain herself from smiling. Sophie got so excited that she composed a new paragraph orally, meaning to compare life with drinking wine：Life is like a cup of wine，the ones who do not know life simply find it bitter, but the ones who understand life deeply can taste it in a unique way, like himself，a happy drunkard，getting drunk in his own wine and carefree of all his troubles in life. 

Every one applauded at this inspiration, and now British Accent Lu Yun came up with another inspiration. She ran to Sophie to be the drunkard’ s friend, chasing him and asking him to pay back his money all along the street. This was a pretty good idea. Having Lu Yun beside her, Sophie could act as happily as she could, never fearing to fall down on the stage, and the careful audience could discover this secret: Even for the happy drunkard, his life was not perfect. He could only lend other’s money to buy wine, yet he was still very happy. 

Sophie’ s performance overwhelmed everyone. From her professor’s hearty laughter, she found confidence and satisfaction.
