My younger male cousin has walked into the most famous middle school in Beijing. Yesterday his mother sent me a page in WeChat with a sketch, a photo and an audio recitation. In it my cousin says he favors Emily Dickinson, the one of whose poems he regards as a beautiful piece and recites.
The poem is under a brief title, Beclouded, which is not the same as its first line, it usually being as far as I know. I have always believed Dickson's poetry is mysterious, and to be admired with courage. Thus I take my cousin's performance to deserve a pat on the back.
So I searched and found a book about Dickinson, which included translation, annotation and even manuscripts of the poems, took its photo and sent it to my aunt. I was then not sure if my cousin had the same interest as mine in this poet. I was only told he would take the book into consideration.
My aunt said her son was never stressed in study. I just wondered how it could be. In the recitation program sent to me, there were in his school too many small masters in English. One of them left a huge impression on me that she read BBC news with RP accent and rocket speed. I sent her video to my friend, who sighed that we were too late to learn in an advanced environment, he himself having learned RP for not a few years. However, I said to him that the prospect of the young were elastic, while we the elderly are stabler in controlling our life.
Anyway, I think my cousin has the advantage, while the crux is that whether he has the sense of falling or ranking behind, as I guess he is far from a top student in such a first-class school. But it's good that he is still working hard till very late, even though it is the basic requirement.
