Much of the time, we insist on appearing more beautiful and excellent in the eyes of others and the public’s evaluation, so we train ourselves, build ourselves and package ourselves according to the public’s definition of “beauty” and “excellence”, striving to meet and comply with the set of recognized standards, with the result that some people do praise us, and we also enjoy this effect. But sometimes when we settle down to be alone, we feel unfamiliar within, and far away from our true disposition; our nerves are so on edge, and the heart so anxious—in order to live in the mainstream of society, we choose to live on the verge of selfhood. Over time, depression and numbness gradually develop, while indifference and vanity grow together.
