Days ago, I went on a trip to Beijing with my mom and an elderly couple who are our relatives. The elderly have little education, which I understood from the beginning. Although the grandmother was like this, her temperament and character were very good. However, her husband made me furious: his behavior and manners could be described as utterly lacking in refinement, truly contemptible. He was addicted to drinking at every meal, and once drunk, he would lose control, acting extremely arrogant and even having the audacity to humiliate others. He directly mocked me for my sleepiness caused by medicine, and when I mentioned wanting to work a shift at my mom’s office, he drunkenly yelled like a jerk, “You’re going to work? More like you’re going to sleep there!”
Although I terribly despised this old fellow, I always had the feeling that he was not short of money. He only ate a few bites of vegetarian dishes at each meal; though he smoked and drank, his body was lean and strong. By chance, I overheard something said by the grandma to my mother, “My husband is especially hardworking. Wherever he goes, he’s full of energy, puts effort into everything he does, and everyone who employs him really likes him.” Hearing these words, along with some kind observations, I came to realize: there is no one in this world who is good-for-nothing. Never look down on anyone, because they will always have qualities that are better than yours and deserve your respect.
