Recently, my boss has been under huge amounts of stress because of a problematic part-time contractor who used to work with our team.
To give you the full background: this man was never officially employed by our company. He was simply a part-time marketing contractor responsible for website design work for a UK-based business partner of my boss. He was allowed to use our office space to complete his tasks, and my boss monitored his work progress since he was overseeing the partnership project.
Unfortunately, this contractor’s work quality was consistently poor. My boss repeatedly warned him to improve his performance, making it clear that he would be let go if he continued producing careless, low-quality results. Despite multiple reminders and salary adjustments to push him to do better, his work never improved. He messed up a massive number of tasks and made countless mistakes across his projects.
Eventually, my boss lost patience and fired him on the spot without hesitation.
Instead of reflecting on his poor work performance, this contractor reacted in extremely malicious ways. Out of anger and retaliation, he began taking unreasonable action against our boss and our company.
First, he filed false reports with local government departments. He reported our company to the fire department, falsely claiming we violated fire safety regulations. He also complained to the tax office, alleging that our company failed to pay taxes regularly and properly.
On top of that, he officially submitted a labor dispute application to government authorities. Shockingly, he actually won the initial labor dispute ruling, and the reason was absolutely ridiculous. My boss submitted all valid evidence to defend ourselves, but every document was in English. None of the staff at the local government department understood English. To make things worse, our original lawyer was extremely unprofessional. Even though he knew the officials could not read English documents, he failed to hire a professional translator to convert our evidence into Chinese. He simply handed in all the English paperwork directly. Without valid understandable evidence, the department ruled in the contractor’s favor.
Refusing to accept this unfair result, my boss decided to file an official court appeal and refused to pay any compensation to this problematic contractor.
That decision made the contractor even angrier. He started a targeted defamation campaign to destroy my boss’s personal reputation and damage our company’s business image. He began posting long, false articles on LinkedIn and multiple international websites, spreading all kinds of malicious rumors.
In his posts, he falsely accused my boss of being fake, abusive, dishonest, and untrustworthy. He lied and claimed my boss was a cheater who evaded taxes, withheld staff salaries, and conducted unethical business behavior. He also slandered our company, claiming we had no real business orders and only scammed our customers for money. Every single statement he made was completely fabricated and untrue.
To make the situation even worse, he went to extreme lengths to escalate his harassment. He used AI tools to create offensive, insulting songs targeting my boss and uploaded them to international platforms. In every defamatory post he published, he attached my boss’s personal portrait and photos, clearly intended to humiliate him and spread false information publicly. All of this counts as obvious personal and corporate defamation.
What’s extremely clear is that this contractor deliberately provoked the whole incident. From the very beginning, after my boss warned him about his poor work quality and adjusted his salary, he held a grudge. He intentionally provoked my boss, repeatedly pushing and challenging him, practically begging to be fired. He wanted to trigger a termination so he could file a fake labor dispute and extort compensation.
The whole labor dispute he created is completely unreasonable and legally baseless.
First of all, he was never our formal employee. He was only a freelance part-time contractor with no official labor relationship with our company. We had no obligation to provide him with full-time employee benefits.
Second, regarding social insurance claims: my boss actually asked him directly whether he needed our company to pay for his social insurance. He explicitly refused, stating that he was only working part-time and did not require employee social benefits.
Additionally, we never restricted his working hours or forced him to attend the office regularly. He could come and go freely, and we only required him to finish his website design projects on time. We never controlled his daily schedule or attendance.
Even with all these clear facts, he still irrationally filed a labor dispute and tried to take advantage of the local system.
Now his continuous online defamation and malicious rumors have seriously harmed our company. Many potential customers have seen his false posts online. As a result, multiple inquiries have been canceled, and several clients have refused to cooperate with us anymore. This has caused real financial losses and severe damage to our company’s reputation.
For all these reasons, my boss has hired a second professional lawyer and officially filed a formal lawsuit against him. We are suing him for personal defamation against my boss and corporate defamation against our company.
We are fully confident that he will eventually lose all these legal cases. He created this entire messy situation out of nowhere with malicious intent, and he will definitely face the legal consequences for his irresponsible and harmful actions.
