Will China declare war on The Phillipines

1675 views. 2012-5-11 16:45 |

The Sino-Phillipines relationship is a political spotlight recently. Their disputes are manily over Huangyan isle in South China Sea. The Phillipines Government Holds the viewpoint that Huangyan island is within its Exclusive economic zone, while China's stance is Clear and resolute. Huangyan island is and as it always has been an inalienable part of China's territory. The Phillipines army has recently launched a joint drill with the U.S. counterpart near the area, as an retaliation, I think China is imposing economic sanction on the Phillipines by strengthening the inspection on fruite imported from the Phillipines. the countermeasure is effective, I hope. But if I have the justification to say that China should exploit the island a little bit earlier, If we have already built infrastructure, advanced road network, permanent department buildings on that island, it will save a  lot of trouble.

China is making trouble everywhere just like the Japanese who invaded China in the 1940's. The Japanese stopped only when USA dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. If USA did not drop that bomb on Japan, China could be under Japanese rule today. Japan learnt the lesson and dared not go to war again.

Now China is taking this dangerous road again. China is creating enemies everywhere by claiming sovereignty over far flung islands using ridiculous, invalid and frivolous reasons. The motive is simple, China only wants the oil and minerals around the islands.

China's claim to Huangyan island makes China look so ugly on the international scene. Look at the map you will know. How can the islands so far away from China and so near to the Philippines belong to China? According to the United Nations, the island belongs to Philippines but China claim that Chinese first landed on the island so it belongs to China. China is throwing rocks on her own feet by saying this. Certainly, the Vietnamese were the first to land on Hainan Island because it is so near and just across Vietnam. Does it mean that Hainan belongs to Vietnam if Vietnam produce historial records which show they were the first to land on Hainan?

China dare not go to war against the Philippines because China have learn their lesson before. China went to war against Vietnam in 1979 thinking it was easy to attack Vietnam. Vietnam with the help of Soviet Union killed 2,000 Chinese troops on the first 2 days. In the end 20,000 Chinese troops were killed. Realising that the Vietnamese were not defeatable, Chinese suddenly withdrawn fully. Finally, China realised that the PLA army was not strong enough and  China decided to modernise it's army.

If China decide to attack the Philippines now, the USA army would come in, the Vietnamese and other countries would take this chance to fight for their own islands.

China should wake up now and stop making make these baseless claims.

China's claim on the sovereignty over huangyan island is not groundless at all. There are concrete proofs and it is justifiable for China to Tap Huangyan island's rich tourism resources and exploit its abundant oil and gas underneath.
As a matter of fact, China has mapped Huangyan to its domain as early as the Yuan Dynasty, if you have no idea which year it is, just look it up in the history book.
The Philippines didn't put forward the issue untill the 90s of last century, it is baseless for them to, you know, realize their dream of an expanded territory, no matter with or without the assiatnce from its aliens.
China is definitely not follow Japan's suit, It is differnet in nature, the Japs were waging an aggressive war on China back then, but what china do now is just defending its inviolable sovereignty.
A nation's integral territory must be maintained, its national dignity must be upholded.
China's diplomatic policy is clear peace and mutual development.
China will never invade any country, nor allow other nations to do the same to itself. if it is a war they are looking for, they shall have it!

glad to hear some different opinions on the Huangyan island. but i have to ask you to allow me to disagree. I just want to point out that we cannot say an island belongs to somebody because it is close to him. a country's border, either land or water, is formed for various historic reasons. You may look at the map of Greece or the map of the United states. as for the border war against Vietnam, i'm wondering how you look at the fact that Vietnam, small as it is, attacked and occupied Cambodia at that time.
the modern history of china is a history of being bullied and nibbled. i guess no one will remain in power in today's china if he/she, as head of government, allows its territory to be taken away like before.

According to China's logic of whoever set foot first on the soil goes on to own the land, then USA would be the owner of the moon and the Europeans owns  Antartica and the American-Indians own North America.

China is misguiding it's own citizens by citing invalid so called historical documents. Does it mean that if a landing event is not documented, then the country cannot have a claim the territory? The practice of documenting events just doesn't exist in ancient times in some countries. Nobody would reasonably doubt that the Philippino fishermen landed at Huangyan/Panatag Shoal long before Chinese did.

Ancient records are sparse, incomplete, and do not provide compelling evidence of routine occupation, effective administration, or assertion of sovereign control. The claim that the islands were exclusively Chinese is further weakened by an official Chinese government report published in 1928 that shows the southernmost delineation of Chinese territory as the Xisha Islands (Paracels) and makes no mention of the Nansha (Spratly) islands.

Clearly, the Vietnamese has the most credible claims are based on history and the continental shelf principle. Vietnam claims the entire Spratly Islands as an offshore district of the province of Khanh Hoa. Vietnamese claims also cover an extensive area of the South China Sea. The Vietnamese have followed the Chinese example of using archaeological evidence to bolster sovereignty claims. In the 1930's, France claimed the Spratly and Paracel Islands on behalf of its then-colony Vietnam. Vietnam has occupied a number of the Spratly Islands. In addition, Vietnam claims the Paracel Islands.

Most countries would accept that Taiwan belongs to China and I also believe that Japan belongs to China too because of the proximity to China, the similarity appearance features of it's people, the Japanese characters looks like Chinese too. In addition, there are historical evidence that Chinese people landed in Japan in ancient times. Despite of these facts, China don't dare to claim Japan but prefer to claim a far away island next to the Philippines just because Philippines does not have strong defence and China wants to grab the natural resources around those islands.

How childish it is to believe that small countries cannot invade larger countries. Israel is a threat a number of much larger countries in the middle east.

Since China has made a claim, the best thing to do now is to keep quiet. Any military or naval conflict in that area would turn China into an aggressor and in turn face retaliation from affected countries.

China has turned itself into a mess in world affairs by making these ridiculous claims. Any further claims by China would set the minds of the Filipinos on fire and they would resist the grabbing of their island less than 200 kilometers from the Philippines.
