Will you agree to cancel 'Death Penalty'?

879 views. 2010-5-30 12:19 |

My presentation is divided into 3 parts. First is to talk list the important meaning of death penalty. Second is to show my now opinion on this kind of sentence. Third is to say something about the current situation in China. And now I just want to move on to my first part:

First, I’m going to list 2 main reasons for the existing of death penalty. The one is to eliminate the unsafe elements in the whole society and keep its stability. That means someone won’t commit a crime or kill a person if he knows he’ll pay a death toll for it which can decrease the crime rate to some degree. The other is to comfort the sadness and sorrow of the victim’s family.

But I still against using such a cruel sentence to punish a person. That’s my second part of this presentation. To this point, I also have my own reasons in the light of following: first: using death penalty to eliminate the crime rate is just an illusion. From one side, life imprisonment has the same function as the death penalty to avoid murderer bringing more danger to the whole society. From another side, whether to commit a murder has a strong connection with the civilization level instead of the cruel sentence. Take some part of Asia area for an example. Although the Middle East and Africa keep the death penalty, they still have a big problems caused by high crime rate. Another investigation shows that about 67% police thought that the death penalty can’t reduce murder and about 87% police even didn’t believe those murderers would consider the result of their cruel deeds. Second: sentence a murder to death can’t solve any problems. If those murderers are kept in prison and do something useful to make up for his big mistake or even read more to have a new value of the world, of course it has more positive meanings than just kill them for nothing. And with the development of the civilization and the change people’s opinions, more and more victim’s family will be more rational towards this kind of thing. Third: Canceling death penalty will reduce the rate of unjust case because someone don’t want to lodge an appeal just for lacking money. Last but not least: Canceling death penalty will arouse people’s attention and thinking to life and freedom of our human beings. Everyone’s life is pressure, if we can give them a second chance to reconsider the meaning of life and guide them to a right way, it’s of course much better than killing them for nothing.

Third part: as we all know several states in America has still kept death penalty while Hong Kong has cancelled it for a long time. It is mainly connected with their religion and society value. Maybe that’s why in China, we still keep this sentence here. China has a large population and a low overall quality of the entire people of the nation and most of them agree with such kind of sentence which is the main reason why a death for a death has a rootedness in people’s mind. But to me, I still believe death penalty will be cancelled one day in the future in China according to development of the civilization and a high overall quality of the entire people of the nation.

I still hold that it's very hard to tell whether it is good or not to have death penalty. If it has been canceled, how can you assure that crime rate would decrease, instead of increasing?

Presentation tip: start with a short anecdote about the death penalty, for example, tell about a recent case in which someone was executed. Then give the outline of your presentation and then the rest. During the presentation, you can easily refer to the anecdote.
