What is a Cepheid?

A Cepheid is a pulsating variable star. This type of star undergoes a rhythmic pulsation indicated by its regular pattern of changing brightness as a function of time. The period of pulsation has been shown to be directly related to a Cepheid's brightness, making observations of stars one of the most powerful tools for determining distance in space.

- Hi, astronomy boy. It is extremely hard to spot an astronomy amateur in this site. If I am wrong about this, correct me. I think the Chinese translation for Cepheid should be 造父变星。I didn't look up for it in my dictionaries.
