Cooking breakfast, Morning disasters on the run...

1341 views. 2012-11-1 18:52 |

Another strike of morning disaster completely destroyed my dear morning dream. Given that there was no class ahead of us this morning, I was lying in my bed, snug like a bug. Everything seemed peachy, nothing particular. However, this seemingly uneventful morning turned out to be full of dramatic events later on.

Before I reveal the whole story, one thing you should keep in mind is "I am no good cook". Sleeping late until the sun burned my butt, I dragged myself out of bed and got dressed up. After cleaning and packing everything, I would usually go grab a bit in the cafeteria or in a noodle restaurant. The same thing kept happening almost every day, up to this morning when I figured why not I cook on my own. In the belief that I was able to cook alone, I took out the cooking sets (Obviously not mine) and got started. Well, for a simple breakfast as it seemed, I intended to cook rice porridge with mung bean. Under the impression that this task was meant to be a no-brainer, I simply washed the rice and beans for three times, added some clean water and threw them into the rice cooker. Thereafter, I was engaged in my own stuff, feeling pretty confident that everything would just go as I thought.

As a quarter passed, a strong yet unpleasant smell approached my nose. I could 100% assure you that was nothing like pleasing aroma from my mom's kitchen. The first idea that jumped into my mind was "BURNT". What was I supposed to do? Turn off the cooker or add more water? I picked up the latter solution. It seemed working well, the smell gone, the rice and bean bubbling again. When I was satisfied with my quick response, the smell came again out of nowhere and in an extremely weird way for the fact that the water was apparently sufficient. Now this time, I was totally lost, without knowing what to do.

At this critical moment, one hint from my roommate reminded me of a possibility that there could be something wrong at the bottom of the cooker. I grabbed up my spoon and poked into the bubbling porridge. To my great dismay, the bottom was covered with a full layer of burned rice and mung bean. That marked my complete failure of this cooking experience.

Another lesson learned from this evil morning, that is, NEVER cook breakfast alone. I wrote this funny piece of blog just for fun. Hope you guys have been amused.

Haha... You should know by now that cooking is not for everybody, but you gotta be funny to be able to burn a pot of congee or rice porridge. Well, at least you are better than me. I can't even break an egg properly with half on the bowl, half on the floor. Better leave those for the lovely gals.

LOL~Yea, a great appetite doesn't make me a good cook. The key to the kingdom of cuisine may well be changing hands to the ladies.

I met a girl in my former company in 2005, who is not good at cooking, but she is willing to spend time to learn to do the cooking, which not only save mony, but also does good to her health.
