Our contract with Pakistan Telecom is expired, so we’re busy dealing new contract. Because the quantity is one million, the competition is ferocious.

        The Pakistani boss Mahdu just came last night to negotiate the price. The purpose of his company was to reduce the original price by 20% and it’s very tough for us.

        I was only a technical guy and didn’t receive customers. Since now I was in charge of Pakistani business, I was assigned to receive mahdu at Baoan Airport. The airline service was bad, Mahdu was supposed to take off at 17:00, instead, he was delayed for two hours.

        I sat in the Benz of my boss to receive Mahdu together with the driver. Probably I didn’t take a bus for nearly half a year, I wasn’t very comfortable in the car and was a little sick. Finally we arrived at Baoan Airport after half an hour.

        Entering into Baoan Airport, the driver said there was an active Riverside Scene At Qingming Festival, but the working guys there told us it was already closed and we should come tomorrow. It’s a pity. So I enjoyed watching beauty instead, those chicks coming out of the gate were all pretty, yeah, people could afford to fly in China were mostly rich. They had money to make their skin tender, clothes fashionable. The situation was totally different from industrial zone, those women were mostly shallow without spirit.

        The driver was a careful man to tell me watch both exits, only then I found there were two exits, so I stood in the middle to watch both exits with my eyes. I met Mahdu before in Islamabad. Then I was exhausted to fix technical issues, he told me I must try my best to fix all issues and he would give a celebrating party, or else I would ate dry bread instead.

        It’s lucky Mahdu was a tall man with white hair. I recognized him at once when he walked out. We greeted with each other warmly, man, he was half a head taller than I though he was more than seventy years old.

        He was in a bad mood, two hours of delay, nothing to eat and drink on plane. China airline service left a very bad impression on him. The driver couldn’t find his parking place at first and this added his anger.

        Finally we sat in the car, it was almost 21:30. A stupid driver wasn’t flexible enough to drive his car out, so we had to wait behind him. Mahdu shouted at the driver, “go, go, go, man, what’re you stilling waiting for?” The driver complaint it to me, “the old man had a bad temper”. So on the way to Seaview O’City Hotel, I chose to be silent and Madhu called somebody most of the time, however, he still complaint the driver wasn’t good enough to drive the car steadily.

        Because it was night, the driver was lost for a while and couldn’t find the hotel. Madhu thought the driver wasn’t smart enough and called my director instantly. Luckily, we found the hotel not long before.

        My boss and my director were waiting outside. My boss took Maotai with him, Madhu’s mood was improved greatly by seeing Maotai, which was probably the Chinese wine he liked best, Wuliangye wasn’t his favor.

        It was already late, so we chose to eat in the hotel. Madhu ordered his dishes, my director ordered only a small dish of vegetable soup, my boss ordered a small dish of noodles with shrimp, I was embarrassed to order expensive food, so I chose hamburger instead. My boss said I wasn’t tasty for ordering hamburger in the business negotiation, but he wasn’t unhappy, I guessed probably I saved money for him, that’s the true reason.

        Some women quarreling with each other in the dining room. Madhu wasn’t very comfortable with this kind of environment, he enjoyed quiet dinner environment instead.

        We mainly talked about price issue, so there wasn’t much for me to talk about. I poured wine and ordered this and that to kill time, I was actually a waiter there. Maotai was expensive, however, Mahdu always told my boss not to forget about filling my cup full.

        After the dinner, we reached an agreement. Both sides stepped back to get that. I took a taxi home. It’s lucky I met a warm—hearted driver so that we could have a nice conversation.

        When I opened my door, it was nearly 1’o clock. Business wasn’t only about earning money and it also made people tired.

        This noon, I took a taxi to the hotel to have lunch with Madhu again. My boss regretted that he didn’t give Pakistani side a call to show it was ultimatum price. So we were in trouble this noon, they requested us to reduce one dollar, the good thing was that we still have one day to decide that for Pakistan Telecom could wait for it until Monday.

        During lunch, Madhu told me a lot about being a businessman. I had to be outgoing and sociable to deal with different people. Thanks to him, I learnt a lot to be a businessman, currently, I was in the middle of changing myself from an engineer into a businessman.

        My boss also told me about business etiquette and I learnt something from him, but he hated my belt and said it was a technical belt instead of a business belt. I bought the belt in senior high school and it was true oxhide, only it was a little ugly. I had bought several beautiful and expensive belts before, but none of them worked well over a year, so I preferred my old belt. Maybe I could wear beautiful belt for business and old belt for daily life.

        When we said goodbye, I told Madhu he owned me a party for I did fix all issues last time. He laughed aloud and promised he would give me a party next time I went to Pakistan. After that, he went to Hong Kong Airport, I preferred to take subway to company to save money.

        I didn’t have coin and also didn’t take my subway card, so I chose to buy my ticket later. There were so many foreigners in OCT. The place was full of trees and the scenery was good, no wonder the housing price was incredibly high. I had no money for that, alas, I took a package with remaining dish(My boss told me to) and returned to company to work again.
