It is widely acknowledged that each person has his or her definition about success, although there should be some slightly differences amongst people, the standard of success could be simply divided into two mainstream viewpoints.
One standpoint is judged SUCCESS based on the reputation or the social position that one person possesses, in this sense, higher job occupation represents more successful due to his or her more contribution to the society.
The other counterpart links SUCCESS with the feeling of happiness that one person enjoys. Happiness is such a kind of feeling which dramatically various across different people and cannot be simply defined or expressed by language, however, consensus has been achieved about the presentation of happiness to some extent. In most cases, happiness comes from three aspects including harmonious families, affable friends and comfortable working environment.
All the above two conceptions about SUCCESS are consequentialism, which concentrate more on the final results. All the conceptions mentioned above could be applied to estimate success, but only from the version of consequence whereas the procedure that one fights for his or her dream has been remarkably overlooked.
However, in my viewpoint, the most important thing is not about judging one’s success, since everyone is successful only if he or she makes some effort for his or her dream. The only discrepancy across people is the level of success, that is, what level of success you have achieved rather than whether you achieved success or not.
By now, I have mentioned the definition of success based on the version which is widely acknowledged by people and my dissenting opinion on these conceptions as well.
I deemed that SUCCESS should not be simply measured by the final result after one’s endeavor, and SUCCESS is more closely related with the feeling during the period that one pursues his or her dream.
Specifically, since almost everyone is fighting to realize his or her dream including you, SUCCESS could be easily measured by how you are feeling “NOW”. If you are happy now, you are successful now. If you are happier than others now, you are more successful than others now. That is my NEW DEFINITION about SUCCESS.
In other words, if you are painful or tortured drastically in your life, how could you say you realized your dream? Your dream is to make yourself suffered?
However, one should ask that my new definition of success is far-fetched, as there is no denying that no one could realize his or her dream easily, or no one could keep in happy mood when he or she is conquering the adversities.
The above question could be answered from two aspects. On one hand, if someone chose the final objective which is obvious over his or her capability, of course, there are plenty of pains waiting for him or her. In this sense, if you are not knowing about yourself, you probably fight for another person’s target.
On the other hand, you are tortured by assorted problems on your way to succeed, but that doesn’t mean you are unhappy, it might be explained by “less happy”. You are still willing to persist on what you are doing even if you are tormented because you know the difficulties you confronted with are tests on your way to succeed, and you are happy with these tests since every single test you passed signifies the progress you made to self-realization.
To sum up, success is not a result, you are SUCCESSFUL because you made SUCCESSFUL target, and you selected SUCCESSFUL method, and keep SUCCESSFUL mood. Don’t force yourself doing something which is inapposite to your capacity, of course, you could make your long term goal kind of profound, but reasonable. And please keep in happy mood and enjoying all the “painful” time on your “successful” way.
