I am eager to improve my English. And for me, learning English is a life-long process. I’ve talked about English study for several times in Dio and often read other Dio friends’ blogs about learning English. Here I’d like to pick this old topic again and express my own opinion and also hope to get other friends’ advice.

The first question is that if we can improve our English when we keep writing. I think that keep writing is a good idea for the beginners. If you find writing is a hard job for you, writing more will give you a kind of feeling of writing in English. But for those who has got used to writing, the most important thing possibly is the correctness and elegance of language. My master study is about English, so I had to write long paper in English, and definitely, I’ve read a lot of materials written in English. The biggest problem for me is not the length of writing or the words I choose, but the syntax and grammar. I was criticized seriously in my master dissertation for my English writing ability. That is frustrated thing for me, possibly because my non-English major in Bachelor study gives me a poor basis on written English. The fact is that I don’t have a good command of English as a language. As a tool for communication, English is easier because foreigner can understand broken English just as we can understand broken Chinese.

The second question is how to get our English writing more correct and elegant.  I really hope that some Dio-friend can correct my mistakes on grammar or syntax rather than simply comment on what I’ve written. Admittedly, reading other people’s blogs is an interesting thing, we can share their good idea, their attitude towards life and other beautiful things. But I believe that the main purpose of our lodging ourselves in this flatform is improving our English. Right?

Finally, can any one give me advice on how to have a good command of grammar and syntax? What kind of books is useful？Many thanks.^_^
