On westernization

I went to the English Corner last night that I met Derek , one of Taylor ' s friends from America ,haven't seen him for a while . This was the second time I see him in the English corner ,also it was the second time he attended our activity because he is not working in ZJ .
The topic we talk was about culture . As we all know , as a Chinese what we can be proud of is that we have 5000 years historical culture and four greatest inventions far in history .But now the world is changing and the ways people think ,eat , dress and use are also changing .This is the result of the effect of multi-culture . There is a great trend that our Chinese is being westernized. America fastfood restaurants likeMcDonald's and KFC are commen seen in China . The colthing we dress is also different from we used to wear. Also the houses we live in is also tend to westernaize.
How do you think about the changes. What effects do the change bring about . Do you think it is good for our Chinese being westernized ? This was the question we discussed last night .
Will the young generation forget our own culture when they persuing western new things .
Derek asked us a question that what is the meaning of traditional lady in China , which made me a bit hard to answer . I really didn't know how to give him a best anser. Guys,what is your opinion about the question ? Could you tell me ? And what is your opinion about the effect of China 's westernization ? I do puzzle with the problem .

- The Occident might affect us a lot,but they would not change our essence.We can't only shut the door to develop us inside.This is why we step outside to experience the exterior world.I always trust in my heart that it is China changes the entire world.So it was and so it will be.

- it sounds the english corner is great! i think we should learn from the western positively and actively. and only doing so can we know both the eastern and western well, then can we say that we know the world and can we comment on ours and keep something of our own. or we are close and have to be changed passively.

- Samaritan: I think we may call it globalization, not westernization only.yeah , i can't agree with you more . It is reasonable result of globalization ,but Derek insist that it is westernization . I really feel a little hard to give him a satisfactory reason . He said the effect is not so good indeed. He said he even don't know what is the standard of traditional women.

- waywendy: yeah, I agree with your points . The changes is the reasonable result of everything going global ,especially since China entered the WTO . In some extIt seems that americaman are always so smug.They all think the world revolves around them.And Other humans and sovereignty couldn't possibly survive without the mighty and powerful hierarcy of U.S to guide us through our problems.There is a new flash for them that we can get along just fine without them.By the way,as a country of only 200 years,maybe they totally have no idea what's history and tradition~
