‘But I am a false son-in-law. You forget it?’

‘Oh, Jack, you hurt me heavily. You even say so after having slept with me.’ She bursts into tears.

‘Don’t cry. My little belle, it is but a joke. I knew you would turn fiction into reality last night. You’re a schemer. I dropped into your trap, didn’t I?’

‘Don’t say such conscienceless words, baby. Are you too good for me?’

‘It is you that are too good for me, belle. I think you may deign to marry me. I don’t want to be an Adonis. You misunderstood me just now.’

‘Don’t say such heartbreaking words again, honey. I promise I am yours. Be my husband and love me forever, will you?’

‘I love you, Molly. I feel humble sometimes. I am sorry to make you sad.’

‘It doesn’t matter. Let’s get up otherwise my father will be too hungry. Let’s go out eating. I reserved seats in Lijing restaurant.’

 ‘你忘啦，我是冒牌女婿嘛。’

‘别哭嘛，小美人儿，开玩笑而已。我早就知道你想假戏真做，搞阴谋，陷害我。’

‘还说这种没良心的话呢，宝贝儿，人家配不上你吗？’

‘是我配不上你，美女。你要屈尊下嫁，我可不想当小白脸儿。你又误会啦。’

‘亲爱的，别说这种伤人的话，人家保证嫁给你，白头到老。’

‘茉莉，你真好。我只是偶尔感到自卑，说出让你伤心的话，对不住啦。’

‘没事儿。起床吧，不然老爸要饿坏了。我在丽晶酒店订了位，咱们这就过去。’

 

The restaurant is filled with the joy of festival. Every seat is occupied, a scene of reveling. The waiters and waitress are busying serving food. Voices and guffaws can be heard from time to time.

The table Molly reserved is on the second floor near a window, through which neon lights are blazing here and there.

‘The street is so lovely, isn’t it?’ the old man’s eyes are busy looking around.

‘Yes, dad, do you enjoy it?’ Jack tries to make a conversation.

‘No, I think it is noisy. I prefer to live in a quiet place with fresh air. Generally speaking, metropolis develops its civilization by sacrificing the environment. The nature will retaliate sooner or later.’

丽晶酒店充满了节日的气氛，座无虚席，灯红酒绿。男女服务员前呼后拥，布菜置酒，熙熙攘攘，好不热闹。

茉莉预订的桌子在二楼，靠近窗子，透过玻璃，可以欣赏外面花花绿绿的夜景。

‘城里太热闹啦，’老头子的眼睛有些不够用了。

‘是啊，爹地，喜欢城里吗？’杰克没话找话。

‘不喜欢，太闹了。我中意安静的地方，空气也新鲜。一般来说，大都市的文明以破坏环境为前提，老天爷迟早要报复的。’

‘My father was a middle school teacher and interested in environment protection.’ Molly finds the inquiring expression of Jack’s eyes.

‘You told me that dad ran a hydrodynamic generator, didn’t you?’ He remembers the topic.

‘No wonder your daughter doesn’t invest your project, dad. By comparison, the investment return of stock is much higher than that of generators, isn’t it?’

‘But mine has less risk and hers is of high risk, isn’t it?’ the old man makes back talk.

‘年回报有多少？’

The stock saloon is held in a meeting room of a securities firm. A large oval table is in the center of the room. Twenty armchairs are around the table on which fruits and mineral water are placed. The charge is five hundred a person, as much as the fee of a star vocal concert. Even so it is not easy to get the ticket.

It’d rather be a seminar than a saloon. First of all, a man from the securities firm offers a report about the stock market situation. Then the discussion begins. Everyone can express his point of view.

A fat man is the first speaker. His voice is thin and weak as if a sissy.

‘Ladies and gentlemen, it’s my pleasure to make speech here first. I think the index will go down slowly. The bottom may be at 800 points. The high time of opening a position is in July or August when most of the second quarterly reports have been published. The risk will be eliminated fully.’

第二个发言的人瘦而高，着一身笔挺西装，未出声先清嗓子。

‘鄙人认为今年的股市不具备投资价值。经济不景气，在企业惨淡经营的情况下，指数将重回五百点，甚至以下。我建议投资国债，既安全，又有稳定收益。’
