原创英汉双语小说:《股票与英语》{40}

‘Cheers, darling, thank you for your scheming. I am sure that base Bond is cursing himself now. But I don’t understand how did you get his code, baby?’

‘You quaff first.’ He intends to let her drink more to release her depression.

‘I’ll quaff three glasses to thank you, darling.’ She means what she says. ‘Now tell me how you knew his code.’

‘It is easy. When we knew his abode I read the map finding the ATM on Bagua Road is the nearest to his abode. You know, he is an escaped criminal and dare not walk to the place far from his abode. I figured out he would choose the ATM on Bagua Road. Then I went to the place to do spot inspection beforehand and found there was a high-rise building opposite the ATM. The roof of the building is a good place to watch the ATM. This morning I arrived at the spot earlier than you. Then I told you that I arrived. When you revised the code I could read the number clearly by a spy-glass. Now you know the reason, don’t you?’

‘Remember one time I said that you were an innate spy, ha-ha-ha. Here’s to your sagacity, honey.’

‘Thank you, darling. Now the hidden trouble has been eliminated. What will you do next move?’

‘I will help you improve oral English. Have you sent an E-mail to the teacher?’

‘No, I haven’t. I’ll send it this evening. Do you have any advice?’ He realizes she has some ideas.

‘Yes, I think if I spend two hours each day to talk with you in English you may improve oral English quickly.’

‘But you must look after the stocks, needn’t you?’

‘As we are long term investors, we needn’t stay at the securities firm from morning to afternoon. From next Monday on we just go there in the afternoon. In the morning we stay at home. You learn English and I surf online.’

‘Good, I like the idea. But what shall we talk about? It is the problem that always pesters me as well as nearly every English learner.’

‘I have a brainstorm idea, Jack.’

‘What is it?’

‘From tomorrow on you tell me a story in English a day. At the outset it may difficult for you to do. I suggest you start with writing the story first and then recite it. Didn’t the teacher ask you to write every day, at least a hundred words? Then you may combine talking with writing and reciting.’

‘Wonderful! Darling, you develop the teacher’s idea creatively.’

‘How will you thank me for this?’ She nestles to him forgetting where they are.

‘Stop, stop, honey, don’t play such an action that is Adults only.’

‘Then let’s go home immediately, honey. I want you to love me eagerly.’

‘You say the last word, darling.’

Chapter fifteen

March 5, 1999, Friday

I will focus on improving oral English from tomorrow on. I have got a learning plan from the teacher. I find it suitable for those who have six hours free time a day. Let’s look at it. In the morning review the new words learned the previous day after getting up. Then read aloud an English novel at least one hour. Don’t forget to pencil the new words encountered while reading after which look up the new words and remember them by heart for the first time. Then review them timely. When to review is a secret, which will be told to you if you pay. The review must be done another five times. The specific regulation about it needs paying. The above work needs one hour and a half.

After breakfast I write in English. I will write something I experienced such as my childhood or life in the college. Then I must learn it by heart because I will tell the story to my partner, Molly in the afternoon. The workload is changeable. That is, if your free time is ample, you can write more, vice versa.

I usually have a nap after lunch. The nap makes me feel energetic. I review the story I write in the morning. Then strike while iron is hot. Tell Molly the story. We can discuss the story in the afternoon when we do something else.

In the evening I watch English TV and do the exercise of ‘Listen and Repeat’ for one hour. Before bedtime I write an English diary.

‘Darling, where are you? I am sleepy. Let’s go to bed early. The saying is better, early to bed early to rise makes a clear boy.’ She shouts on the second floor.

‘I won’t be long, baby.’

‘Remember to come to the bathroom directly without any clothes, honey.’

‘I am afraid you won’t bear it.’

‘You boast without action once again. Come in a hurry otherwise my desire will abate.’

‘Don’t call me like calling a spirit. May I come in?’

‘Don’t pretend to be a fledgling, honey. You’re an old soldier, aren’t you?’

‘I don’t think so. It is your entitle, isn’t it? Darling, I have a brainstorm idea.’

‘What is it? You’re so long-winded.’
