There is this girl, natural long hair resilient like silk running all the way down to her shoulder, giving off a fragrant odor, light and purified feel of another unsuspecting Sunday afternoon, just a few steps away from Daniel.

 

Pink T-shirt pairing up well with yellowish shorts, giving so much attractive prominence to her milk white skin, with a touch of red.

 

Is she Japanese or Chinese? She’s definitely Chinese. By the way she smiles. And by the way I observe that beautiful smile from her face.

 

And now she holds up that string of grilled cuttlefish meat balls, her eyes large, crystal-clear and charming, she purses her lips, the string of cuttlefish dripping broth as it nears her lips. Nearer. A droplet of broth. Which falls a second of eternity onto her shorts. Yet she fails not in looking the way the string of cuttlefish held two or three centimeters away from her lips.

 

“Whe…when…did you get so close to me?!” This girl almost has her heart jump out of her mouth.

“你…你什么时候坐得和我那么近的？！”那女孩惊诧不已。

 

Daniel looking her in the eyes, her eyes are beautiful, tranquil as the surface of a blue mirror lake, deep inside there are no depths of dim light but all comfy feeling of pure childlike joyfulness.

小伟注视着她那双美丽的眼，双眸就有如明镜般平静的湖，深处并没有一丝灰暗，嗯，没错，是那股清纯童真般快乐，让小伟感觉到好舒服，好舒服。

 

“I…I want…I want it…I want you…your grilled cuttlefish meat balls.”

Luckily this is not another round of simultaneous interpretation. Daniel is sweating within his mind.

“我...我要…我要那个…我要你啊…你的烤墨鱼丸。”

小伟内心抹了一把汗，好险现在不是做同传。

 

“If you wanna eat cuttlefish, you can buy one string yourself.”

Her voice is sweet, I want her talking to me more.

“想吃墨鱼丸，自己买啊。”

她的声音好甜，我好想她同我说多点话。

 

“Ojiisan has got no more today.”

Daniel feels as though he has turned pig-headed.

“Then you can come back tomorrow.”

Her voice is like a stream of spring flowing softly into my sore throat.

我喉咙痛，但她的声音就似一股温泉，给予我那需要的滋润。

 

“I leave Japan tomorrow…”

As he says this, Daniel takes out his sackful of mint candies filling up the fulness of his trousers pockets.

 

“What are you doing? Mint candies? Are…are you the eminent simultaneous interpreter who can switch between English, Chinese and Japanese within a breath of time?”

Her voice is still the sweetest Daniel has ever heard.

 

“Could I have your name?”

 

“Doris. Z”

“我叫丹丹。”

 

Upon catching her name, Daniel grasps his sackful of mint candies, and, and throw them into the trash bin, without a second thought.

 

“Why are you doing this? Even if you get mad with me, you don’t have to throw away your fav…”

“你干嘛？即使不喜欢我，你也不用把你最喜欢的薄荷糖扔掉啊？”

 

“Any clues why I always pop pieces of mint candies whenever I am doing the simultaneous interpretation on live broadcast?”

Daniel feels for his throat with his hand.

 

An innocent look on Doris’s pretty face.

 

“Cos I suffer from sore throat easily. An interpreter is bound to get this illness sooner or later.”

 

From a pained look Daniel switches to a naughty one, like a child, and as though the way he interpretes between the three languages.

 

“But from now on, I guess I don’t have to suffer from sore throat any more. Cos with you, your voice and the way you make me feel, just like honeydew moistening my exhausted throat, the kind of spring refreshing my heart…”

“我想我以后都不会再喉咙痛了，因为同你在一起，你的声音，你给我的感觉，好甜蜜啊。”

 

“Wait a second, when did I become your girlfriend?”

“我什么时候说要跟你在一起了？”

 

A naughty smile on his face, Daniel, still a child now.

 

“Give me one bite into your cuttlefish.”

“让我咬一口你的墨鱼丸。”

 

“But I have already kind of touched the string.”

Doris feels surprised.

“但上面已经有我的口水了。”

 

“It’s not like you got illness”

“你又没有病。”

 

“You baddy.”

“你好衰啊。”

 

Within the split second Daniel sees the two kinds of reactions Doris might take towards him, but he is already in too deep. Just now he was two or three centimeters from Doris, almost feeling her warmth. His eyes aiming right at the cuttlefish held in her hand, and the next a nip on the string.

 

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwww…

 

Just a feeling of satisfaction overwhelming within. So sweet. Ain’t right, cos cuttlefish ain’t taste that way. Yet this is the best cuttlefish meat balls I have ever tasted.

 

The calm finally sets foot in the scene again. A blush suffusing Doris’s cheeks. Daniel, blushing, also.

 

“Your cuttlefish is yummy…” Daniel breaks the silence.

 

“You baddy.”

 

Embarrassing silence for another while.

 

Doris feels such a touch of warmth when she realizes that Daniel has held her hand tight in his grasp.

 

“Come, we shall go!”

The confidence shining within Daniel’s eyes as though he were in another round of simultaneous interpretation once again.

 

“Where are we going?”

 

“You’ll see.”

Doris sees the twinking stars when she looks into Daniel’s eyes, instead, this time.

 

Sakura petals fluttering alongside with the snowflakes, fragrance of her long silky hair in the breeze all upon my mind.

She takes my hand in hers, and I hold her so close to me. Till the sun sets, so it really is drawing the evening curtain down now, right at the foot of the Mount Fuji. And in all the forever and ever more expanse of tranquil moonlight penetrated all through this sakura tree blooming fully, and nicely, I, Daniel, know now, all the world would see no shadow of another parting from Doris.

两人拖着手

依偎紧紧相抱

夕阳沉没

拉出又一夜的帷幕

于富士山脚下

月色宜静

穿透过这盛放着的樱花树

那是一份辽阔

永恒

使我

小伟

感受到

在这个世间上

再没任何事物可以
