原创英汉双语小说:《创业之路——东山再起》{73}
‘You want me to be anxious to death, don’t you?’
‘You have just been in the USA for less than one year but you become more anxious than Americans. Listen to me. I think it is a good idea to set up a joint venture with the local government to develop the local pneumatic energy.’
‘Mr. Sam has told us it. It is not a new idea.’ She retorts him immediately.
‘Has he told you anything else?’ He seems to have a well-thought-out plan.
‘No. He just told us that they would like to set up a joint venture with us. Nothing else was said by him.’
‘In reality, it is a wonderful idea. Both of you fail to see its merit. It is why I said that I see more than you because of the position of a looker-on.’
‘You keep me guessing once again. Tell me the result as soon as possible.’
‘Do you manufacture the generators? Yes, you do. Do you have a large stock of the products? Yes, you do. Then why don’t you offer a little of the stock to set up a joint venture with the local government? In that case, you will loss nothing but capture a big market. Did you hear a story about a certain oil company offered free oil lamps to Chinese people in the past? The oil lamps were on the cuff but the oil wasn’t. In the way, the oil company sold a lot of oil to Chinese. Now you have the same opportunity as the oil company.’
‘It seems understandable. Please don’t explain it in detail.’
‘First of all, you launch a joint venture with the local government. Then the joint venture may get loan from the local bank and buy more generators from your company. By and by the joint venture becomes larger and larger. As a result, you will sell more and more generators locally. Don’t you think it is a good idea?’
‘Wonderful! Your words are very instructive. By the way, does Mr. Sam know the idea?’ Lily is creditably careful.
‘No, he doesn’t. This is my own patent idea.’ Jack doesn’t understand why Lily asked so.
‘Marvellous! Will you please ensure not to tell him the idea until the joint venture has been formed?’
‘Yes, I will. It is no harm to him.’ He puzzles but promises.
‘Good, I am grateful to you, Jack. I am sure you will be well rewarded by us. What’s more, is it your special trip to help your former classmate?’ She intends to steer the talk in directions that make them ease.
‘Yes, it is. Sam is my bosom friend and I owed him a lot of debt of gratitude. I happened to have a rest meanwhile. How is your brother’s business?’ He knows the subject of the business has been finished.
‘My brother has turned his business from sales to manufacturing. He embraces my suggestion to help GM produce mini generators in my hometown.’ She is apparently proud of her capacity.
‘You have made a big progress, Lily. Congratulations.’
‘Are you single now, Jack?’ She suddenly asks such a subtle question.
‘No, I can’t bear lonesomeness. My girlfriend is with me here.’ He doesn’t want to conceal the truth.
‘May I see her some time?’ She feels a little uncomfortable.
‘Next time I’ll introduce her to you. I’d like to say bye if you have nothing else to ask me. I am afraid my girlfriend will be angry with me if I stay out too long.’ He feels so bored that he makes a pretext to go away.
‘What a henpecked man! I won’t buttonhold you. I happen to be tired. See you next time, Jack. Thank you for your suggestion.’ She is a little reluctant to part with him.
‘So long, Lily,’ he bids adieu resolute and decisive.
