Sample from New Oriental School:
On my 25th birthday I invited a lot of friends over to my home. The party was scheduled for 6 o’clock. On the morning of that day, I ordered a birthday cake from the baker’s in my neighborhood. Then I went shopping in the supermarket and bought many balloons, candles, and vegetables. You know, all the stuff needed to make a salad. On the afternoon of that day I decorated my sitting room with balloons and candles and at around 5 o’clock I started to prepare dinner. When my friends entered my home at 6, their faces lit up immediately because of what they called a romantic ambience. During that party, I received many gifts. We sat around the table and talked of many beautiful memories from the past. We had a great time that night.
Sample from Wang Lu:
I couldn’t forget my experience which happened about three years ago. I was dating my boyfriend, and we were in love for about three years. Just on my birthday, he gave me a surprise. He asked me to go to the countryside with him at night. I thought he was going to go camping and I went with him. Then, before we were going to reach our destination, he blindfolded me and said he wanted to give me a surprise. I was quite curious because I didn’t know what he was going to do. He took me by the hand, and then I followed him. After about a few minutes, he said, “you could watch now.” I took off the scarf which blindfolded my eyes. Then I was shocked and moved for the first time in my life. I saw the burning candles in the shape of a heart. He hugged me and said, “well, this is my heart.” Tears came to my eyes and I said, “I feel so happy today, and I’m going to remember it as long as I live.”
My sample:
Last Saturday I went to the bird’s nest to watch the Italian Football Super Cup with friends. The match was between Lazio, the champion of the Italian Football Association, and the International Milan, the champion of the Italian Football League. In the beginning, most people bet that Milan would win, since Lazio was weaker in strength and had been losing to Milan for nine straight years. Throughout the whole match, Milan got the upper hand and they were holding the football most of the time. But surprisingly in the latter half of the match, Lazio scored first. The whole stadium almost exploded at the moment, people cheering and whistling like crazy. I believe that Milan was mad about this and they began to attack more fiercely. But three minutes later Lazio scored another point. It looked almost certain that Milan was doomed. But Milan was indeed a highly professional team. They fought hard and managed to get one score ten minutes later. The whole game was exciting and enjoyable. I remember it because it was the first time I saw a football game at the Bird’s nest and the game itself was really superb.
