A fashion icon, most stylish man (woman)， is a person who has a good sense and taste of style, holds sway in fashion knowledge over ordinary people, and displays this knowledge over time.

全世界最为公认的时尚教主就是英国潮流女王凯特•莫斯（Kate Moss）。《时尚》（Vogue）的编辑亚历山德拉•舒尔曼（Alexandra Shulman）曾如此评论这位身高只有169cm 、瘦骨嶙峋、O 型腿、略带颓废、穿什么什么红的超级模特：

She is one of the few women alive today who I think is a contemporary icon. Like all icons, she sits up there as a target waiting to be shot down. Kate is an image. Her talent is to look wonderful.

除了凯特•莫斯外，够得上称为 fashion icon 的还有因《欲望城市》（Sex and the City）走红的“熟女型教主”莎拉•杰西卡•帕克（Sarah Jessica Parker）、足球与时尚的“跨界型教主”大卫•贝克汉姆（David Beckham）、“大胆出位型教主”麦当娜（Madonna）、“风情万种型教主”詹妮弗•洛佩兹（Jennifer Lopez）以及“酷版教主”艾薇儿（Avril）。

IT girl 是继fashion icon后又一个潮流新锐词。IT girl是对外形、能力样样都好的女孩的称呼，她们必须年轻貌美，多才多艺。目前被封为IT girl 的都是光鲜亮丽的明星，如奥尔森姐妹（Olsen Twins）、帕丽斯•希尔顿（Paris Hilton）。

在IT girl 的基础上，又有一个新词渐渐冒出来——IT bag，专门用来称呼当季最流行的手袋，比如大热的机车包（motorcyle bag）和柏金包（Birkin bag）。
