在1990年冬天，一个熙熙攘攘的购物日里，乔纳森-特雷格遇见了莎拉-托马斯，一双羊毛手套让还是大学生的乔纳森和萨拉相识并产生了微妙的情愫。

十年后，乔纳森依然在纽约，成为了一名制片人，而萨拉则在旧金山做精神治疗师。两个人的命运自那次邂逅以后似乎就再也没有了交点。乔纳森正忙着准备结婚，暗地里回味起那短暂的罗曼史多少有些伤感。究竟冥冥之中这两个人是否还能走到一起呢？他们又是否真的会顺从命运的安排呢？
