Angry Young Men

The "angry young men" were a group of mostly working  and middle class British playwrights
 and novelists who became prominent in the 1950's. The group's leading members included John
 Osborne and Kingsley Amis.The phrase was originally coined by the Royal Court Theatre's press
 officer to promote John Osborne's Look Back in Anger. It is thought to be derived from the
autobiography of Leslie Paul, founder of the Woodcraft Folk, whose Angry Young Man  was published
 in 1951. Following the success of the Osborne play, the label was later applied by British news
papers to describe young British writers who were characterized by a disillusionment with tradi
tional English society. The term, always imprecise, began to have less meaning over the years
as the writers to whom it was originally applied became more divergent, and many of them dismissed
 the label as useless.

的生活虽有一定的改善，政治改革却成泡影，因此引起人民（尤其是青年人）的不满，这种情绪首先在文学
作品中反映出来。有些小说和剧本愤怒地攻击了英国社会的阶级壁垒、统治集团和教会，对因推行“福利国家”
　　政策而造成的单调的生活表示不满，对上层社会的虚伪和势利表示厌恶。他们之中有不少人出身于工人
阶级或社会的中下层，以本阶级的举止行动为荣。这些作家彼此之间并不相识，但是他们的观点与感情是一致的。
