While the winter months in Switzerland's main cities can be foggy, cold, and rainy, the mountains often boast the idyllic snow-covered image seen on many postcards. And while winter pursuits in Switzerland are not limited to skiing and snow boarding, these activities are certainly an important and popular part of the season.
Winter brings its special festivals, and in different parts of Switzerland these are the excuse for participants to disguise themselves, whether in ornate costumes, or in fearsome masks.
