Firstly Mark Twain is America's greatest humorist because his humor severed to point up erreors in American life. Its gaucheries, pretenses and political debilities, and at the same time expressed a faith in the American dream in a optimistic and unquenchable style. Secondly he started off as a teller of tall tales and local colorist. He perfered to present social life through portraits of local places which he knew best. Most of his works are concerned with the presentation and interpretation of the local character of the Mississippi and the West. Thirdly Mark Twain was filled with loathing of the wordy, flowery, eloquence and sentimentality of romanticism, instead, he developed a clear, vigorous colloquial, concrete and direct in effect, and his sentence structures are simple even ungrammatical.
