differences and same points between Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman
First I want to say something about their same points. They are both the greatest and most original poets, both are independent American poets in theme and technique. Both extolled an emergent America, its expansion, its individualism and Americanness. In technical terms, both added to the literary independence of new nation, by breaking free of the convention of iambic pentameter and exhibiting a freedom in form unknown. Then we talk about their differences. Whitman keeps eye on society at large, Dickinson Explored inner life of the individual. Whitman's form is endless, all-inclusive catalogs.Dickinson's form is by concise, direct, simple diction and symtax.
