abandon, desert, forsake, give up, quit, relinquish, renounce区别

Abandon: 强调“完全、永远地遗弃”, 尤其是指遗弃以前感兴趣或负有责任的人或物.(绝对的决定性地舍弃)。
eg.Now the crew had to abandon the sinking ship.
   She abandoned her child.

Desert: 强调“违背誓言、命令、责任、义务等”。
eg.The soldier deserted his country and helped the enemy.
   He deserted his wife and two children.

Forsake: 指“遗弃某人以前所爱的人或物”, 强调“断绝情感上的依恋”,抛弃（庄重用语）。
eg.She pleaded with her husband not to forsake her.
   He has forsaken those bad habits.

Give up:舍弃，一般用语（表没有希望而舍弃）。
eg.He gave up his sear on the bus to an old lady.

Quit: 强调“突然或不意地弃去”, 常指“停止”。
eg.She quitted her job.

Relinquish:放弃（常指不愿意地放弃）。
eg.The enemy relinquished their positions.
   He was forced to relinquish control of the company.

Renounce:放弃（较正式用语，“声明放弃”的意思）。
eg.He renounced his claim to the property.
