Do your job match your personalities

Hot 3640 views. 2016-9-5 14:34

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.

And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Dont' settle.

As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on.

So keep looking until you find it. Dont' settle.

-- Steve Jobs -

You time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.

Don’t be trapped by dogma- which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice.

And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.

They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

- Steve Jobs -

I was stuck by a choice for almost 10 years—whether to be a CPA or not, now I have just got the answer: "No, absolutely, it’s not for me."

I am relieved.

After graduated from Uni, with no doubt, most of my friends were having a CPA program.

I was so hesitated whether I should do the same thing or not.

For a bright future and good money, it is absolutely essential.

But for some reasons, I truly very unwilling to follow it, and even I couldn’t tell why.

I didn’t feel really satisfied as I was empty without learning something new. I’ve got nothing to do.

Almost at the beginning of each year, I was so excited—I wanna start my CPA course.

As I admired my friends who had already passed CPA and being successful in their career for entering a better company with a higher job position.

However, I used to give up after I consulted with friends regarding whether it was necessary to do a CPA program.

The majority of them told me—No, I really couldn’t tell there’s point to do it, which discouraged me a lot.

Even one friend surprised me that she was under tremendous pressure for being a CPA and she would like retire at an earlier age.

it seems to me not many people are really enjoying being a CPA.

They might just for better money or a fancy title or looks good in front of friends and relatives.

Simply they are doing what someone else are doing or what they are supposed to do from the point view of the society.

I know I am not a person who is easily change mind because of someone else's opinion.

But this time it did, probably it matched my inner voice—no, please don’t do it.

I remembered a few months ago, one friend encouraged me: “Hi, Sweetolive, please join me for CPA.”

I told her: “No, I won’t do it if it is just for money increase, I will only do it if I really really enjoy it.”

But it still took me a few days to think about that question: join my friend or not.

In the end, I made a decision: “No.”

I could imagine if I started a CPA program, I had to read those laws and regulations at night or weekends by giving up all things I love, then I would be so unhappy about that.

I tried very very hard for the solution which was always on my mind, but I couldn’t figure out.

In the end, I was frustrated about it for so long time by getting nowhere.

It was until recently I did my personality test, “My god, that’s it, that’s the answer I wanna hear.”

CPA doesn’t match my characters at all. That’s the reason my inner heart stopped me doing it.

My two distinctive personalities are: innovation and passion.

Innovation means: Creativity, adventure, break habits and try fresh ideas, happy to take risk, bold, unconventional thinkers, think big.

They don’t like repetitive, linear tasks, they can become bored and distracted if adhere to a rigid set of rules.

Passion means: create new ideas with enthusiasm, love experimenting, embrace new situations and relationships with zeal.

Now, you know if I to be a CPA, there’s nothing to do with my personalities.

CPA is all about regulations and laws, which is a kind of repetitive job; while innovative character is all about creative, adventure and new ideas.

Therefore, I don’t think I will be really happy if I am doing a job which doesn’t match my characters at all.

Though it may have a higher payment or provide better job opportunities, but that won't let my personality shine.

I enjoyed what Sally Hogshead said: rather than focus on what you do, focus on who you are.

Therefore, what a time wasting!!! If I do start a CPA course.

In the end, I might find I am not that really fall into it, that would be like hell to me.

Now, I am still doing accounting, pretty bored sometimes, but I am making full use of the time.

My workplace is pretty flexible and relaxing.

I can take holidays whenever I like and also I can arrange my own time for doing things.

Just think about if I have a stressful CPA job, what the hell, it will make me like a robot and I have to give up writng.

For my readers, if you are a CPA, It might suits your character, so please ignore the sentence above.

Instead by following my passion, I am doing writing, though it doesn’t make money at all at the moment.

But it let me become who I am, as Sally Hogshead said: To become more successful, don’t change who you are, become more of who you are.

Writing is creative work with new ideas, you can never see through what will happen in the future.

It is an unknown world, which is full of challenge and adventure, as I have a character of risk taker, I just love it.

I probably more passionate about reading interesting books than writing itself, sometimes I couldn’t stop reading until 1:30 AM.

It is like fall in love and I really enjoy it so much.

If I study CPA, I might will fall asleep immediately because I don’t have any interest on it.

Hi, Friends, if you are at a cross roads, and you have no idea which direction to go, please don’t ask other people, as you know who you are more than anyone else.

Just pick up the things you truly love or you can't live without it.

and start doing it, you will find so much enjoyment which you can’t buy with your money.

I feel admired that someone can do what they really want to do. But sometimes we do what we have to do, without any hesitation.

I am so enlightened and touched by the words from Steve Jobs in your article. I strongly feel they are tailored for me. Haha, don't laugh at me.

I find that we two share some similarities. I also don't like my present job that much, though I am still trying my best to cultivate interest in it. I also like to write down something here, but I don't dream to be a writer.

I appreciate your courage so much that you've made a brave decision to follow your heart and inner voice. Unlike you, I've never had that kind of courage and braveness. Since I went to school, I 've been living under great pressure from my family, because they had very strong expectation on me, as if I was the only hope for them to creat a bright future. Driven by the pressure, I was nearly forced to accomplish my college study with all my best, and then, affected by my classmates, I chose to get further study. It was not hard to imagine, the post-graduate life was very tedious and exhaustive for me. To get a good job, I almost devoted all my time on my study and experienced lots of anxieties and nervousness.

So embarrassed to say, for more than twenty years, I've been trapped in studying. As a result, I know nothing except mechanically studying. And very ironically, as a grown-up, I'm starting to think of cultivating a hobby.

Therefore, I cannot agree with you more for your suggestions to others "just pick up the things you truly love".

if you love writing so much, you can do it in your free time or even in your workplace.

please dream big, you should tell yourself : yes, you can to be a writer, if you tell yourself you can't, then you won't get a chance to achieve it.

it doesn't matter to be a famous writer or not, but if you hold a dream, your life will be so different, because you will have a light ahead, if you go every step towards it, you will feel your life so meaningful.

take myself for example. i was bored last year, but now i set up my wechat subscription and started writing, so many nice and helpful local people are coming to me as they are helping me for my English improvement.

they are bringing me to an unknown world, they are telling me a lot of interesting stories and i feel so fulfilled as i set up my goal higher, i have lots of things to do, life will never be bored.

yes, or no, you have to do things you are not that keen on, but you still can find your spare time doing things you love.

if you keep persistent, one day you might turn that hobby into a professional job.

most important, doing things you love which fulfill your life, make your life more interesting.

that's true, we won't feel really happy if we do things only for money , if we follow our heart, we will have to be very different from others, which requires courage, that is not easy.
