Currently I am living far away from my hometown and I get to see my family and friends at most once ayear. Homesickness can sometimes be extremely overwhelming. When ignored, the depressive emotion can gradually eat away at your positive feelings and leave you miserable.
Here are some great ways I've come up with to help you overcome this feeling.
Homesickness often comes when you feel disconnected with surroundings, the best way to connect with surroundings is to establish a new strong ties with your new friends.
Try to figure out what you are going to do as a daily and weekly routine. You don't have to follow a strict schedual like Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theroy. But , this means not just waking up and making a great breakfast, but also incorparating something fun and interactive like meeting up with friends for a drink or a sports game on Saturday afternoon.
Video chatting with family members and friends is also a good choice. But don't be too clingy. I know you don't want your parents to worry about you, 'cause you've grown up, so just tell them the good stuff in your life. But, don't, instead to talk about your joys as well as sorrows. Surely, the problems won't be solved right away, but you will feel relieved afterwards.
Homesickness is not necessarly negative, it helps you understand who you are and what you need. If you dealt with it well, it can make you a better person.
