# I Am a Tragedy

I am a tragedy

To receive from God

Things that are lost

For being cast away

Should I say—

Let the tragic nature

Take its course?

# Stay Up

Steal a little bit

From under the lamp

Time in the night

And do some things

With meanings uncertain

How I find myself

Never bored of the joy

# Grief

When time for grief

The future and past

Huddle together

In the frail cage of present

# The Nocturne

Until I listened carefully

The nocturne didn't end

For now the only time

The first note before

Came to mean itself

# To Love Someone

Like late night I get up

And write in narrow lines

To love someone in secret and guilt

Aloof from me is a world

# The Goldfish

The goldfish is said

To have memory

Of only seven seconds

Should I forget you in seven years

Would it be different from a goldfish

# A Half Moon

Under the soft moonlight

Don't know while we share

The same moon, is yours

Also the only half like mine

# The Silence

When I almost love you

And you almost, too

We dedicate to each other

A frail heart of silence

# The Old Woman

The old woman

Keeps her walking stick

Sits against the side of the lane

Hollow eyes see in depth

The stories in every wrinkle

# The Passing

I label the present

And then it is gone

Coming are those

Like shooting stars

For long in the sky

# My Tears

I have shed tears

Worthy of nothing

Whatever in my eyes

Looking back in particular

# Passers-By

I play the roles

Of passers-by

In many a life

But a fleeting glance

Doesn't neglect you

As I bear in mind

# Pick the Stars

In tender years

Always were my wishes

To pick the stars in the sky

Coming of age, I always want

With you, to exchange my own stars

"Can I pick the stars in you?"

# Hand in Hand

Hand in hand

Anyone will break

Through our tie

Perforce, fail

# On Distance

The furthest distance

In the world, surely lasts

With the greatest pain

To be covered, but sometimes

So near between

# Care for You

My care for you is earnest

But I'm not as valiant

In this heart

So I care for you slightly

# Missing You

Peeling off my shell is a crab; writing on me is a notebook

Landing on the maple leaves and snowflakes are me all over the sky

While missing me are you

# Lighting

From across the street

The buildings are bright

With lighting

In frames of windows

Like piled boxes

# My Dream

Can I become a writer?

In the dark hours, when

Thoughts are withered

# Sayonara

Verily, soft is lowering your head

That takes after a lotus shy against cool breezes

Say take care, say treasure

Within is the sweet sadness

Sayonara!

# Words from Inside

You would say to me

Words from inside

In turn I have in mind

Things to do for you

# The Lullaby

The shovel of the sweeper

The cat without a bedroom

The creatures in crevices

Make up a length of lullaby

# The Massif

It is across the massif

Border of the lost hope

With a blissful country

Stray like a single star

Only a flickering light

Will lead me somewhere

# Out of the Window

Looking out of the window

I see a resting picture of dusk

Sunset makes everything graceful

A few birds are calling each other

Until their honeyed words die down

Night doesn't fall from the sky

# Loofah Flowers

In my uncle's garden

Many loofah flowers wear yellow

Some with glowing faces

Over the shelves, look around

Some are downcast, ready to part

Just as things of yesterday

# The Contemporaries

My father's father

Went to see my mother's

A visit paid to an old man

By an old man

# A Tender Heart

How to make so tender

A heart repose in its cradle

Bow if you attend to

All along, that abased

I never dare to show

Someone a little courage

# Regret

I said,

"You are not her who makes me sad,

thus not to cheer me."

You said,

"That is what I regret.”

# An Unhappy Day

Today I have two thoughts

One I am very lonely

The other I hate to see more people

# Insect Sound

I can not hear, outside the window

Sound of the little creatures

Who have the same thing in my heart

They sigh as long as I breathe

I can not hear the same thing, still

That they have in their hearts

# A Cup

In a milk tea house I met a cup

Written on it was someone's love

"I may have only passed by your life,

but not another me in your eyes."

It made me guess in my heart

If the girl who gave me the cup

Had secretly copied the story just now

# A Mirror

When not clear to see myself

And how the others look at me

I can't but wait poorly for a mirror

Just to reflect my every fault

# My Smile

I see a pretty beautiful girl

And instantly I want to smile

A smile of lust

Or one of bitterness

And then never have the chance

To see her again

# Stray Singer

If I could play the guitar

I would naturally become a stray singer

And sing sorrowfully wherever I am

While I am waiting for a girl

To give me a glimpse, the sorrow

In my songs would not end
