2 days ago, my nephew got born, which is a delightsome event in my whole family. Especially to my grandparents, who are at their 70s, now could see by their own eyes their fourth generation of offspring, and, the baby is male, perfects their concept of “Carry on the family or blood line”.

     I am also quite happy, and later suddenly i find a thing, it seems like most of the new babies got born around me are male babies. My cousin’s 1 year old baby is a boy, my husband’s nephews are all boys, among my classmates, most of them having a male babies, and 5 families living in a same yard with me, 4 of their babies are 2-3 years old boys, I even did an investigation in my company among who have young babies, and the result is, 10 boys, 4 girls.

      Yes, we all know most of Chinese people like to have sons., especially those with long history areas, He nan, SI chuan, Shan dong, and rich areas like Fu jian, Je jiang. I have heard a story that a married woman at Shan dong province had already got 7 abortions since 4 years ago she firstly gave birth to a girl. And those 7 abortions were all female fetus after the couple took illegal B ultrasonography. Luckily i got the news at this beginning of year that she got pregnant again and gave birth to a son. Finally.. 7 abortions, the woman takes their life at risk to get a son. How stubborn! But this exists a lot.

     these people are struggling to have sons, already makes the gender imbalance gets more seriously. While we young generation now mostly have no sexual discrimination, why so many get a son as their first born baby? Is that a gene problem? Or a reaction of something like collective unconscious of we Chinese for longing for boys after so long time accumulation. Or is a joke of God, see, now all boys, satisfied? This is a punishment. Everyone can anticipate after 20 years, there would be a lot of grew up man find it hard to get their wives, even find a girl as friend would be difficult.

  In fact, this  phenomenon already is emerging nowadays. Have you heard the joke saying of having the different gender like banks? Having boy is CCB (China Construction Bank), girl is CMBC(China Merchants Bank). And before, people called the girl as Money-losing, for girls could not earn money but need dowry from the family, while now, it becomes the opposite, young man seems are more money- losing in this society, because though they also work to make money, they need to buy house to attract a woman, and successfully get marry. Man supplied house or bigger part of family property are still deep rooted, while woman now could both making money also take care of their original family after married. This is sad and stressful for man, and this can not say a victory for woman, i think. There is no victor in a society with another gender exist too many victims, whatever in what society, whatever for man or for woman.
