What is bothering me

1275 views. 2010-11-16 22:35 |Individual Classification:essay|

People sometimes feel that there are plenty of things that are bothering them. For example, students feel that study may bother them in a large extend; workers feel low pay is bothering them; old men, however, may think health problem is bothering them. For me, the most thing that bothers me is speaking in public.

when I stand in front of hundreds of people, my legs and hands start to shake. My voice becomes lower and I couldn't say a single word. My mother told me that when I was a little girl, I'm not that nervous on stage. I used to dance myself in front of the audience. That's so ridiculous for me to hear about it. Last Thursday, I took the course called "The Art Of Public Speaking". The teacher made an assignment for us, which is to prepare for a public speaking the next week. Suddenly, I feel there's a heavy burden on my shoulder. I began to imagine the scene that I stand on stage and perform terribly because of the nervousness. The worst thing , I never expected, is I'm the first one to give speech. It is really a disaster for me. After all I should prepare for it as I've taken this course.

As far as I know, many people have the same trouble with me. A famous research on public speaking shows that nearly 99.3% of the people feel speaking in public is worse than die. It means that death is not the most fearful thing for them, but speaking in public is. This is really a shocking conclusion. They may all feel nervous, but the degree is different. Some people just feel excited when they begins to speak, while some feel it is a huge stress on them.

But on the other hand, It is natural for some people to speak fluently in public. They use their vivid voice in order to draw people's attention and do gestures whenever they like. They move and talk and influence the audience by adding vocal variety. They have smiles on their faces and make people feel they are kind to them. Sometimes I don't even have a smile, for I feel my face has turned red. I know they know lots of speaking skills when talking to so many people. What I want to learn from them is to practice myself while using these strategies. But it is really a hard thing for me.

Speaking in public is bothering me for a long time. I can't get out of it, since the present speech is not that satisfied. It's a procedure to practice and I cannot do it well till now. Maybe some day I can get over my nervousness by practicing. I hope that day can come earlier.
