“The Advantage Yesterday might be Disadvantage Today”, I red about this sentence from a book of Alibaba Jack Ma’s presentation, which is trying to explain one of the reasons about the achievement of Alibaba in Chinese E-Commercial Industry.
Specifically, due to the development of the retail industry in USA, it’s hard for E-Commercial company to promote their business as the retails shop such as WalMart could be found everywhere, while the less development of the retails industry in China provides golden opportunities for E-Commercial companies, and thus facilitate the achievement of Alibaba.
By the way, the above sentence could be reconsidered in a plenty of versions and generates various standpoints.
In my viewpoint, there might be some reason which causes such consequence that advantages change into disadvantages.
Firstly, it might be caused by self-overestimation. After possess the absolute advantages, one might be arrogant and self-overestimation, which in turn makes one stop making progress or reconsidering about how to or where to make more improvement.
Secondly, it might be caused by the development of others. Your absolute advantages serves as the best prototype for others. To absorb the cherish experience from what you have and blend additional creative elements, there is a likelihood for others accomplish or achieve even higher success than what you have now.
Thirdly, it might be caused by the self-ignorance. On one hand, self-ignorance exists as overlooking the potential disadvantage of yourself. On the other hand, self-ignorance takes place in neglecting others’ potential advantage.
Therefore, if you attempt to keep advanced than others in a relative long period, there are two imperative and essential tasks that you cannot avert.
In the first place, to think more about the future than others, which makes you more competent than others as you understand or expect more about the future and prepare more adequately than others.
Moreover, to keep fighting for your dream. Don’t release yourself because of your leading position. Dividing your dream into several phases and clarify each semi-destination.
Furthermore, to keep an eye on your rivals. There comes an old saying in China “If you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles”.
To sum up, it’s not a simple job for both keeping ahead of others and surpassing someone, or in other words, to always be conscientious is not an EASY thing.
