Reception of Foreign Guest for the First Time

A Korean customer visited our company on this Monday, as this Korean can speak English; I was assigned to be responsible for the reception of him.

I was excited and a little nervous, because I hadn't met Koreans before and had little knowledge about them. The only information I knew about this Korean was that his given name is Park (“" in Chinese).

When I got to the airport with the driver, I found that I made a mistake. I forgot storing Mr. Park's mobile phone number and I didn't know his looks either. Fortunately, I saw the personnel from other companies holding a paper which wrote the person's name they would pick up, and it suddenly occurred to me that I could also made a paper like that. I quickly took out a paper and a pen from my handbag and wrote “Mr. Park” and the name of his company. Shortly afterwards, a man aged around 30 walked out of the airport and went to me directly.

Having not being asked by me, this man extended his hand said to me initiatively: “You must be Ms XX, nice to meet you.” I hurriedly put out my hand: “Yes, and you must be Mr. Park, nice to meet you, too.”

Then, I guided him to the parking lot where our driver was waiting. When we got into the car, we had some small talks. Even though sometimes I couldn’t hear him very clearly due to the different accent, I became less nervous. In the next several hours, I also arranged the accommodation for Mr. Park.

This was my first time to accept a foreigner, and my performance might not be that satisfying, but for me, it’s really a meaningful experience. I have learnt a lot from it. I believe, I will well-prepared and behave much better next time.

Nothing to be nervous about. Seems you have done a good job receiving the customer. We have customers from almost every country including Scotland, Spain, Africa, Europe etc. We could not understand their English due to strong local accent, but somehow, we still manage to get things through. A good experience for you.
