Summer camp, or the week which I got to participate, was great. There were some downsides, but on a whole a wonderful experience. After arriving at Xinyang, after the worst bus ride ever, we went straight to it. There were about 70 kids, six Chinese and seven American counselors. We had a quick devotional every morning, followed by breakfast with the kids, and then camp meeting. After that, we would get into small groups to play sports, sing songs, eat lunch (and take a nap/watch a TV show), learn about character and how to be a loving person, play some group games, meet up again to sing and listen to stories, easy dinner, hangout, and go to bed. The kids slept at the middle school with us (one counselor and up to six kids per room). There were significantly more girls than boys at camp (almost 2:1) which made being a guy counselor way easier. We also went hiking one day. The weather was not so ideal. We experienced record highs this summer, and, combined with the humidity, it made for very tired campers. I guess that could be a good thing, but I wouldn't have minded a little more madness Hahaha, I guess we did have a kid try to eat one of the counselor's headphones (yes, eat); that was fun. Overall, great getting to know all the other counselors and the kids.<div><br></div><div>The goodbyes were prolonged, yet rushed. We, the counselors got to spend a weekend together in Xinyang before most left for America. We ate and went to KTV where I think I almost went deaf and mute (the speakers have two volumes: loud and deafening). The morning the team was leaving, checkout took too long and forced everyone to rush- leaving a lot of goodbyes partial in my opinion. I did get to hangout with the Chinese counselors and Emma (an American going to Hong Kong) for the rest of the morning though, before they all took their respective afternoon trains home.</div><div><br></div><div>I currently am ready for another ten days of madness teaching middle schoolers English at a private school. I'm told it will be around a dozen kids, and I'll teach for about three hours a day for ten days. I think my curriculum is going to cut it, but I'll find out tomorrow when it's put to the test. Next update after camp two.</div>
