This is a speech I gave during our school's morning assembly, it's purpose is to attract participants for my club, public speaking and debating. It was very successful.

Hello. Today I am doing a presentation for my public speaking and debating club. If you just hear the name, it sounds so boring to participate in, but that is a very common misunderstanding.

Let me ask you a question, how many of you can really stand on a stage, facing everyone, and giving a speech that you are not even confident in, since I wrote my draft just last night. What public speaking and debating gives you is the ability to speak in front of everyone, to people you arefamiliar with or just complete strangers. Running this club is mainly out of my own interest and the thought that I want to show everybody that this skill is very important, and it’s not boring. We speak about new ideas, debate about new issues or school rules and other things you might be interested in. Also, we share ideas, develop thinking styles and practice your English skills. Going in to IGCSE and finally into IB, this is a tough stage, so this club is providing an opportunity to help you. I know that most of you like staying in the dorms and read a comic, or hanging out with friends more than you want to debate, but cooperation and real life English will be more helpful for you in the future. If you are worrying sick because of your English, and reciting words whenever you have time, I can say that this club can help you even more than this, since learning without actual usage cannot reach your expectation.

A life without trying out new things cannot be called as a real life, obstacles always occur in front of you, and if you do not fight it, you will fell. Of course, my club is not the obstacle, my club is the stepping stones that helps to build your way to your ideal future. So if you want our help, then just talk to Mr. Michael Song.
