Yesterday one of my colleagues held a housewarming party ,for she just moved to her new house.

  In my hometown, when someone move to a new residence, his friends and relations will go to the new resident.It is called “温锅” in Chinese. It is an occasion for the hosts to present their new home to their friends, and sometimes for friends to give gifts to furnish the new home.

    According to the traditional custom, we should buy bean sprout, shallot and agaric for the host, beacause those things have the quality of “swell”, which is called “发” in Chinese. It means the family will flourish in the future. However, today the youth usually don’t buy those traditional gifts , so yesterday we bought a set of chinese tableware for the host, and the host served us a potluck meal.
