Can a person of the opposite gender really be your best friend?

Today is Friday, I met some friends in a pub and celebrated the end of this hard working week. I left work just after lunch time, the pub did not seem to be busy. We brought a few jugs of beer and sat at a table near a big glass window and started drinking while watching people and cars across the streets. When we were talking some nonsense, my friend Gary suddenly stood up and rushed to the window, he put his both hands right up and waved towards a lady while his foot leaped several times. Soon after, the lady was caught her attention by Gary. She stopped and waved back with a lovely smile. Gary gave her a hand-signal to ask her to come in but she refused. Then Gary looked like he has forgotten us and went straight out to the girl.
In the pub, we all laughed at Gary because he has got a new girlfriend as we all knew that he has already engaged with another girl. After a while, Gary went back in and saw the whole table had nothing left for him. He shouted
" Where is my beer?". We replied
" You have got your new sweet heart, so no beer is needed".
" What?" Gary was furious and opposed "she isn't my girlfriend, she's my best friend!"
Best friend? We all stopped laughing at him because Gary has become so serious about this. I believed that we all asked ourselves the same question: Can a person of the opposite gender really be your best friend?

- It is hard to say. It depends. People with different character differs on this kind of situation.

- why not？most of my best friend are males, friend is just friend, i sometimes help my friend solve their family problems

some boys did tell even when a lovers broken up, they can still be friends, however, what's the results? they stop keeping in touch with you any more after that, that's ridiculous.
But there's exist that special relationship indeed.
In a word, that depends on.

It was nothing,it has passed.
