To a certain extent, I think it’s reasonable. When we are in trouble, we always want someone could lend a help, but in fact, why do you think they will help you, except for your family or very few true friend.

- We meet a lot of people in our lifetime. Not all can become our real friends. To be real friends, both has to go through a long testing time and the friendship need time to develop.
The friends we meet through social circles can only be seen as contacts. We have basic information about them and what they do. We keep their contact for use when we need to contact them. We cannot expect much from these friends as they have not gone through the test of time which is important for friendships. The normal reaction when you meet these friends are; ''How are you'' but they don't want to know how are you and go on to other things. The next thing they would say is ''lets have lunch together sometime'' but again they don't mean it.
Sometimes we meet people who we have an attachment and feel they can become longer term friends and if both sides have compatible interests, friendship can develop. Most of the other friends we meet socially are the ''hello and goodbye'' type. You cannot count on them for help when you are desperate because people are by nature self protective and a bit selfish.
Your own family is the final recourse. When you have dropped to the lowest point in life with nowhere to turn to, your own family would normally embrace you.
Our true and trusted friends normally come from our childhood or school days. These friends have gone through the test of time. We can count on these old friends for emotional and materialistic help when we are desperate.
