In September 21th,2012, a mental patient appeared in the Bund, resulted in two women died. The guy murdered them with a knife. According to relevant information, the number of mental patient in china is above 17million. Most of them haven’t been treated in the hospital, just being looked after by their family members. Some of them wander on the street and become a potential danger to the society.

As far as mental disorder in china, there are two aspects. The first is how to avoid a normal people being made to be a mental patient. Some experts say that mental disorder is more a matter of sociology than pathology. You are different from the mainstream of the society, you are sure to be a mental patient, they can put you to the hospital. The aim is to reject or isolate an individual or a group reasonably. And someone put the guy who is healthy into hospital by conspiring with the hospital to achieve their dirty goal.

A standard mental patient is a result of combination of a standard mental doctor and a standard mental hospital. The standard to diagnose if a person has mental disorder is not of scientificalness. Most of the mental disorder cases can’t be examined by machine to judge objectively, however, being judged by some so-called experts.

When a person is being diagnosed, he or she is supposed to have right to refuse according to law. In the process of diagnosis, ethicist, social professionals, common people should be involved to form a restriction power to avoid a person being made mental patient to the greatest extent.

The resource of medical care for mental disorder is very limited. There are less than 2 mental doctors for every 100 thousand people.

The expense on the treatment is costly. For the patient who is supported by the government need to pay 3 thousand RMB a month, the most expensive expense can reach 20,000 Yuan. The average is 8,000 Yuan. For the lower class, even the middle class in china, that’s a lot to ask.

And by the criminal law, if a mental patient attack people on the street, resulted in serious consequences, they take part of the criminal responsibility at most.

Some people satirized that they are the first-grade state protection animal.

Some people proposed to insist on accountability of the mental hospital.

The family and community are weak in custody, it is very possible that they fail to take care of the patient because they haven’t ability to do it, not deliberately. So the government should be more responsible for it. Maybe we can learn from some developed countries’ experience.

The power of people to withstand pressure and misery is limited. When it reaches a certain point it would break and develop into depression or mental problems. The political upheaval and recent social pressures of developing China is overwhelming.

In a modern and affluent city like Hong Kong, we also have a serious problem due to the tense and competitive life. Recently a young man murdered his parents and mutilated their bodies despite have a relatively normal family. His explanation of his action revealed that he has serious psychiatric problems. There are many hidden cases in our society.

We need to attend to this problem otherwise it would cause anxiety in our society.

People care more about their physical health nowadays, most of us will have mental problems no matter it is mildly or critically,in a way, mental health problem is more serious than physical problem cause people aren't aware of how serious their problems are and not willing to see a doctor. Prevention is better than cure! Thank you for your comment!
