Hello every one here on the HC WeChat group site. Please forgive my tardiness in providing this update of our most recent English Corner. First of all, I'd like to thank each and every one of you who attended our latest meeting. Your participation is sincerely appreciated. Along with a small group of so-called "regulars" we also welcomed Nick's girlfriend Jasmine. Jasmine was still in Zhuhai visiting Nick so she accompanied him to our meeting. Thanks for being able to join us Jasmine! We also welcomed two new individuals who arrived during the course of events. They're Alva and Spark. I must say, I never know what to expect when it comes to the names which are chosen by some of the Chinese people I meet. They're often quite unique, rare, inventive and unusual! Thanks for coming to our meeting Alva and Spark. We hope you'll be returning to join us again. We talked about "Travel English", discussing some examples of English encountered while abroad. All English is not created equal! There's "British" English and there's "American" English. Just like with language differences in China, there are many different variations and individual dialects. English is a dynamic, fluid language which varies greatly from country to country and from region to region or even city to city within each country. Accents, intonation, pronunciation, spellings and meanings can be almost unrecognizable from individual to individual. The best remedy is to speak slowly and clearly. And if you don't understand a person you should never be afraid to ask anyone to repeat themselves or explain what they're saying. Remember that understanding one another is the solid foundation necessary for all good communication. Isn't that the goal we're all working towards achieving? Let's keep up the good work and continue to strive towards achieving that goal together!
