I'm really glad to find this website. Cuz It's a good place to improve oral and written English.

I am studying oral English in New-oriental these days. After the last lesson, Mrs. Pamela assigned homework which is how to open the conversation and how to keep the conversation going. Well ,I think if one use these guidelines, it may break an awkward silence(1-4) and keep the conversation going for longer(5-8).

1.introduce yourself if necessary. It may help break the ice, such as tell the new person his name, shake hands, smile, and so forth.

2 Look around and see if there is anything worth pointing out, as the location or the ocassion. Such as in the cinema, you will say" this is a wonderful movie!"

3At the beginning, small talk is really important. Use small talk to establish friendly relationship rather than argue with each other. Such as a good book you've just read, your blog or website, even the unusal weather.

4.Give encouraging feedback to Being a good genuine listener. Such as you can nod now and then, or give short encouraging statements such as "Is that so?" "really?"

5.Use Their Spoken Topic To Keep The Talk Going. For example, someone says, “I went to see the “x” movie last night.” You can use this statement to open up a new conversation. You could ask, ” which theater did you go to?” or did you see the “y” movie yet?” or “would you recommend seeing the “x” movie?” and so on.

6.Ask Open Ended Questions. try asking “What did you think of the movie”?. rather than asking questions that can be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”.

7.Get rid of fear and start talking about it confidently .Sometimes we fear that the other person may not like the topic, but If that happens, you can simply move on to another topic. No big deal!

8. Talk About Your True Interests what you are really passionate about is also an importance guideline . Share the true feeling with the other person, they must like keeping the conversation going.

Above all, If you want to be able to have better and longer conversation with people you enjoy talking to, start practicing and putting to use what you just read. The best way to practice your skills is to put them to use by talking to your family member or close friends. practice makes perfect!
