Is comparison a good thing?

My work requires me to use calculator sometimes. At my first day I got one from the reception, and had been using for several months without uneasiness, until one day my colleague borrowed it from me and said the buttons are not working well. Then I tried her calculator and admitted she was right. Of course I managed to change one, but what I want to say is, if nobody told me, I would have used it without problem. By comparison I realized mine is not as good as I thought. So is comparison a good thing? I suppose in career comparison and competitions are motives for our own improvement, however, in relationship we had better content with our lot.

- Imagine everybody has the same face and looks the same, everyone has the same ability and interests and everyone is same as the other? Wouldn't it be horrible. Where is the motive to compete and change?
Nature already foresaw this and made every person different so that they can compare, compete and improve. That is why we have the present activity and lifestyle.
In relationship, it is somehow the opposite. They are supposed to be with each other for our lifetime, but for various reasons they are prone to breakup.
Therefore, learning how to be self content is important. Don't compare yourself with others.
